@Chan Cellor Good Observation! I didn’t like that Tony killed his best friend Manny when he found out about him and his sister getting hitched. Why didn’t he accept Manny as a brother-in-law? Manny married her! He wasn’t just using her! But Tony thought Manny wasn’t good enough for her. He put his sister on too high as Pedestal! So he destroyed Manny and their marriage and then his sisters life too.

She then she thought Tony was jealous of her and deep down had some incestuest feelings for her. Tony really messed up. I didn’t like the ending when she came on to him and he freaked out and she gets shot. But it was a movie and they had to have drama. The fall into the swimming pool was a symbolic fall from the heights in front of that World 🌎 Globe. In the end he lost everything! It’s still a great gangster film!

And he’s floating in the pool with his blood oozing out! Powerful ending!

I liked Tony because he lived by a Code! He only killed people who had it coming for trying to kill him. And he’d rather die than kill women and children. He had a moral code of some kind. He wasn’t a ruthless animal and he stuck to his word. That’s all he had. His word and his honor. A man who doesn’t hold to his word and betrays his honor is a dog! I agree with that!

I also loved Carlitos Way but I hated the ending with Benny Blanco killing him after he spared his life! That wasn’t right! Benny Blanco was ruthless and didn’t care about a code of honor. Someone spares your life then your supposed to spare theirs. Instead Benny wanted power and killed him.

That was a brutal ending and I was rooting for him to make it and start a new life with a legit business.

And Sean Penn was great as his unstable lawyer who killed his client on the boat! 🛥 Tony knew they were both dead after that! Oh, you killed us! You crazy F! You just killed us! That was a knowing line and the street is watching you! All the time! Those were great lines and good movies! 🍿
I think they were trying to show that crime doesn’t pay!

Actually it does! Not for gangsters! They get killed but for Politicians! They’re criminals and they get away with it and don’t get punished! White Collar crime pays!

Sosas portrayal was very realistic. Most drug lords are not like Tony, they rather consider themselves as serious businessmen. They calculate, estimate, make financial decisions, spend and invest money and stay under the radar. The "only" thing what makes them thugs and not regular businessmen is because they kill people if necessary, thats why I was so mesmerized by Paul Shenars role as Sosa. If you are an obstacle for his empire, you just die, no matter if you are an adult or a kid, and THAT is truly scary...

@D. G. J.well, you have to think about it like this. A lot of those big drug lords were not born rich, they grew up dirt poor. A lot of them don't change because of the money.
Sosa, however, was said to come from a pretty well off family in England before becoming a drug lord. Of course it's just a story but it does make sense as to why he doesn't look like an El Chapo for example.

Wow, very insightful! Thing is that while Sosa is an underworld kingpin, he's still an aristocrat. He does know how to play mind games. In fact, the last 15 seconds of this vid is proof. Sosa, referring back to Tony's own statements, warns Tony never to F him over. Tony's resulting facial expression and subtle nod hints toward the fear of God having been instilled in him.

Anyway, it was clear that Sosa was impressed with Tony's raw, rational business savvy. Omar was all talk, sticking to a formal and petty meet and greet.

I personally believe that Sosa's warning to Tony is the reason Tony eventually tried to mess with him. It's almost like Tony took it as a challenge - a personal insult. Unfortunately for Tony, we all know how that ended up for him. Sosa was on another level and didn't let those things get to him.

Tony never tied to mess with Sosa. Tony knew that Sosa made it clear not to mess with him. Especially after what he just saw. You can see it in Tony’s face at the end of this scene. The simple fact that Tony didn’t do what Sosa ordered is what got him killed. Killing innocents was never on Tony’s mind. With all the money and power he would eventually have made him think he was equal to Sosa to the point where he thought that even Sosa had to respect him. Also the Cocaine would eventually have an effect on Tony to where he lost his senses.

Sosa watched Tony closely and saw he never flinched nor showed the first sign that the sudden execution death of the other man with him shook him in the least. He didnt care about the guy for sure but Tony was absolutely fearless. And loyal. He would have never done anything to Frank or Sosa or Manny to disrespect or cut there throat. He considered what Manny did the greatest betrayal. His sister, one woman on the planet and just stay away. He didnt want her married to him and get hurt one day. Reasonable request though he knows he overreacted. Manny knew how Tony was. Like Bill said you have to expect a reaction and you know its possible he wont react with joy that why he was hiding it in the first place. It took kids. Tony's soft spot and the code of a soldier. No women, no children. Everything hit him at once. Manny, sparing the kids, elvira leaving, Sosa etc. Any one of them he could have handled easily.

Montana is the antagonist in Scarface. He’s the opposing force that causes mayhem and destruction that crosses his path. He gets Angel killed, he ends up eliminating Frank, he ruins Elvira and his sister’s relationship. The only force that was greater than him was Sosa. I usually make it a point to watch this film at least twice a year. And the more I review this scene the more I’m convinced that Omar wasn’t an informant. I say this because the impression Tony makes on Sosa reminds me of Sollozzo being convinced that if he were to order a hit on Vito Corleone, Sonny (being the next Godfather) would make the deal.

Similar scenario here. Omar was very loyal to Frank as well as the #2 guy. And Sosa knew that had he allowed him to make it back to Miami the deal wouldn’t happen. The other reason why I say this is because of what Frank had said to Omar at the Babylon. I think the real reason why sosa kills omar is because he sees tony as a more fit leader than frank and to let that happen sosa takes out omar so there's no one in the way to stop tony from rising into power

Great analysis. I definitely see where you are coming from. It seemed Sosa developed a liking for Tony and wanted him to be his business partner immediately at the expense of Frank and his organisation. But I'm not sure that was the only motivation for the action. Your analysis didnt take the phone call Sosa received into consideration and what it could have meant. Personally I think someone in Sosa's team did indeed spot Suarez and revealed him as either a snitch in the past to save himself or someone responsible for the death of someone close to Sosa so that he felt he had to take immediate revenge. Either way I think the essence of the scene was to show how violent and ruthless Sosa was and let the viewers know that Sosa wasnt someone to mess with and I say that because this was the first scene with Sosa so it created a background of his character.

I imagine after Omar was fingered as a previous informant and departs alongside his eventual Killers as Tony and Sosa stay behind, the Skull and Alberto the Shadow immediately went to work on Omar and started battering him as soon as they were out of the sight of Sosa and Tony. Maybe dragged him and stomped/kicked Omar and clobbered him with their fists as well then hung Omar from the helicopter. Omar looked as if he were tortured for hours but it was a mere few minutes. Clearly Omar was definitely a rat and discovered by Sosa's associates and connections. But Sosa was in fact a snake as Frank warned.

It was at that very moment Tony realized that Sosa was going to use him as a fall guy. There are no morals or loyalty when you are in the business of drugs. And don’t try to pretend they exist. That is a business of death and despair. Many people miss the part when Tony realized Sosa is a true killer who would sacrifice someone for his own sake. I was reading over the dialogue for fun to memorize quotes as this movie most quotable shit ever and after reading it, seeing each word on paper, watching the scene play out, I have a theory on what was happening here, something I never thought of in the past. I think the phone call could have been a bigger guy then Sosa, a powerful cartel magnate or a U.S. senator for all we know. Someone really powerful, someone that could wipe Sosa off the map. He was asking Sosa about the deal. This deal which HAS to happen. Although Sosa is wealthy and powerful he NEEDS this deal, he owes other people and he NEEDS to expand, to grow and to make vast sums and he needs to do it immediately. He appears chill but maybe inside he’s also panicked. I think he told the person on the phone the conflict, yeah one of Frank’s guy’s Omar is pushing back, the other this Tony guy, he’s willing to set it up. Omar wants to go all the way back to Miami and talk to Frank, Chivato! Guy on phone says, kill Omar do the deal with Tony, right, click.
So the thing about Omar being an informant wasn’t even true, he just didn’t want to do the deal and Sosa needed to do the deal and he did t have time to fuck around, so he killed Omar, 2 things happen here, he creates a path for the deal and also sends a message to Tony and Frank, I don’t fuck around, so don’t fuck around with me.

My takeaway is that Omar was not an informant, but Sosa had him killed and lied about him because he wanted to gaslight Tony and provoke him into taking out Frank, which he did. And then Tony would be completely beholden to Sosa and would have to pay occasional tribute to him. Frank's remark to Tony upon his return of "and you believed him?" indicates that Tony was played by Sosa.

Its clear to me frank was out the loop. Tony and sosa are next level. The way sosa says he put the other gangsters away for life sounds heartfelt like it was a fact. It all just transpired so quickly. From a film making perspective it shows how rapidly sosas response is. Which is reflected later in the movie we believe it 100%

I find parallels between Sosa and Roth. Both are well spoken, educated, rich, think many moves in advance and ruthless. Remember that Roth didn’t hesitate to shoot Michael’s wife and kids if needed to get rid of Michael. Sosa tried to do the same. Roth owned Michael for the most part of the movie, and Sosa plays Tony like violin.

When Tony vouched for himself, Sosa realized then and there how dangerous he was. Yes Sosa has more muscle, but Tony showed more balls than anyone here. He aggressively and passionately insisted he wasn't a stoolie like Omar and dared Sosa to kill him then and there in case he wasn't taking chances. I think Tony would have taken Sosa with him if he had the opportunity.

Tony showed Sosa exactly what he wanted to see or he would’ve been killed also. Sosa wanted a bigger deal than Omar was negotiating for Frank, and Tony showed directly in front of Sosa he was willing to undermine Frank and make a bigger deal that ultimately made them both more money. It was clear to Sosa Tony was gonna potentially, eventually, take over Frank’s operation. I mean Tony Montana actually trying to talk down to an drug Overlord,knowing that any given second with the snap of his fingers,he can have Tony disappear AKA killed!!!
