Simon's career began with a short-lived music group with her sister Lucy as The Simon Sisters. They had a minor hit in 1964 called "Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod", and made three albums together before Lucy left to get married and start a family. Later, Carly Simon collaborated with eclectic New York rockers Elephant's Memory for about six months. She also appeared in the 1971 Milos Forman movie Taking Off, playing an auditioning singer, and sang "Long Term Physical Effects", which was included in Taking Off, the 1971 soundtrack for the movie.
Simon's major breakthrough was 1972's No Secrets. The album spawned several successful singles, including Simon's biggest hit, "You're So Vain". Simon continued to produce successful albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, moving into film scores after she was dropped by her record label in 1985. She performed the main title song for the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me - "Nobody Does It Better" which was a worldwide hit in 1977.
Davy
Carly Simon Lyrics

For us?
Davy, is there the kind of smile that you
Read about?
There are ghosts who would warn me
Keep me alone
Davy, are you the heat I feel in my
Foolish heart?
To feel something so worthy
For someone like you
Davy, could there be love so bright
Like to jump off the sea?
Davy, did I imagine it or did you look at me
With a look so bold that I had to look away?
But if it feels alright
If it feels alright and it feels alright
Davy, Davy, Davy!
The lyrics to Carly Simon's "Davy" delve into the emotions of a woman's infatuation with a man named Davy. The song begins with Carly Simon asking Davy if there is a song out there in the night for them, hoping for a perfect soundtrack to accompany their love story. She continues by questioning whether Davy possesses the smile that she has always longed for. However, although Carly Simon is desperately trying to find love and connection, she is haunted by ghosts who would keep her alone, perhaps indicating past heartbreaks or traumas that prevent her from fully giving into her feelings for Davy.
As the song progresses, Carly Simon wonders if there could be a love as bright as the one she envisions. She becomes particularly fixated on a look that Davy gave her and feels foolish for not being able to hold his gaze. Despite her insecurities, the refrain repeats, "If it feels alright and it feels alright, Davy, Davy, Davy!" This suggests that despite her doubts, she is willing to take a chance on Davy if it feels right.
