God God God
Carman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're the people of God and we're here to say
Living for the Lord is the better way
We're the people of God and we're on a quest
Raising up a banner of righteousness

Full of hope, faith and fire
We're the chosen, rising to a higher plane
A performance, stirring up the gift that was dormant
War, no, we're not afraid

Send a giant out, we'll take him down
With the Word and the Spirit
This generation needs to hear it now
And demonstrated with God's power

We're the people of God and we're here to say
Living for the Lord is the better way
We're the people of God and we're on a quest
Raising up a banner of righteousness

Extra, extra, read all about it
Satan lost the war and no doubt it works
This holy power, and it's ours to devour foes
Who come against us 'cause it send us out

And strong in the spirit
This generation needs to hear it now
And demonstrated with God's power

We're the people of God and we're here to say
Living for the Lord is the better way
We're the people of God and we're on a quest
Raising up a banner of righteousness

Someone hurts us, He's the one who mends us
God before us, who can be against us

Redemption, yes, we're living proof
We're the church, church on the move

Overall Meaning

Carman's song "God God God" is a gospel song that speaks to the identity and mission of the people of God. The opening lines declare that the true followers of God are present and accounted for, living for the Lord in a way that is better than living any other way. The people of God are on a quest to raise a banner of righteousness, which suggests an active, purposeful, and visible role in the world. The song inspires hope, faith, and fire in the chosen that they are rising to a higher plane.

The lyrics show that the people of God expect to have opposition as they carry out their mission. However, they are not afraid to face giants or any other obstacle that may come their way - they will take them down with the Word and the Spirit. The song emphasizes that the message about God and his power needs to be demonstrated in everyday life through the works of his followers. Satan is mentioned but not given much emphasis, and victory over him is simply announced as having already been won.

Moreover, the song celebrates the power of the Spirit among the people of God. The song’s chorus is repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing God's people’s solidarity in their mission to be the Body of Christ. The song’s message is one of hope and encouragement to believers that no matter what challenges come their way, they are people of God on a quest to raise a banner of righteousness.

Carman on fire....the early years...

Wow that's been awhile, how time passes.  I first heard of Carman in 1984  when he came to a local church in my home town in Oklahoma,  An independent Assembly of God church.   He had his second album out, comin' on strong. My younger sister went ( who was about 13  at the time ) with her best friend and came home all excited about this new Christian singer.  I was 19 or 20 at the time. My sister showed me the cassette she had bought at the concert and I remember thinking, weird hair, but I loved the music.

Comin’ on Strong was his 3rd official release following Some-o-Dat & Sunday’s on the Way. Prior to those he recorded a custom lp called God’s Not Finished with Me.

This is probably the earliest video I've ever seen of Carman! Awesome! On a side note, I was reading the video's description and had to correct something. "Champion of Love" is not Carman's song. That's the Cathedral Quartet. Carman's is a story song and it's just called "The Champion".

There’s also a Champion Of Love song by Alvin Slaughter. Carman’s is simply titled The Champion.

@Victor P. Victa Alvin Slaughter's song is actually a cover version of the Cathedral Quartet's song I mentioned before, but thanks for the help anyway :)
