We Are Not Ashamed
Carman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some people wonder why we take the chances that we do
To bring the word of God into the workplace and the schools
We're looked upon as outcasts
Fanatics they may say
So why then do we still persist
To share our faith this way
It's because...
CHORUS
We are not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
For it is the word fo God to every nation
We are not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
For it is power of salvation

For those of you who fight in the wars
Against our nations sins
Heroes who give so much more than is required of them
For those of you who paid the price
Beyond what words can say
Remember that you're not alone
With the cross you bear each day

Jesus Christ was wounded, too
With our wounds deeper than ours
That's why no child of God
Should be embarrassed by their scars
So lift up your head
You weary saint
Be strong in Jesus' name
The battle's won, the victory's ours
Let's stand up and proclaim...

That it's the Gospel that saved me
And the Gospel raised me
And the Gospel that gave us everlasting life

Repeat Chorus

Overall Meaning

Carman's song "We Are Not Ashamed" is a powerful message about the courage and resilience of Christians who choose to live out their faith in their workplaces and schools, despite the potential risks and consequences. In the first verse, Carman highlights the fact that many people view Christians who share their faith as outcasts or even fanatics. However, despite this stigma, these believers persist in sharing their faith because they believe in the truth of the Gospel and the power of Christ's message of salvation.

The chorus reinforces this message, stating that Christians are not ashamed of the Gospel and its transformative power. Carman sings that the Gospel is the word of God to every nation, and that it has the power to save us all. This message speaks to the core of Christian belief, reminding us that we are called to share the good news of salvation with everyone we meet, regardless of how they might perceive us.

The final verse of the song shifts focus to the sacrifices and struggles that many Christians face in their lives. Carman mentions soldiers who fight against the "sins" of our nation, as well as those who face personal challenges that test their faith. He reminds us that Jesus himself suffered and was wounded, and that our own scars should not be a source of shame or embarrassment. Instead, we should be proud of the faith that has sustained us through our trials, and stand strong in Jesus' name. The song concludes with a triumphant declaration that the Gospel has saved Carman and given him everlasting life, and he urges others to embrace this message for themselves.

Of all the songs written & performed by Carman, this is the one that came to mind when I heard he had passed away yesterday.

I am truly shocked !! I had no idea he passed away. I just did a search on him, and found out it was due to complications of a surgery to repair a hiatal hernia. That's so utterly ridiculous. He was only 65.

Amen! He, more then most contemporary Christian artist, was NEVER ASHAMED to share his Faith and speak the Name of JESUS with BOLDNESS. He will be missed. I pray someone steps out and Proclaims JESUS name in song again as this Great man of GOD did. Can you see him in Heaven. Singing and just rejoicing in the Greatest Concert of his life? IN THE VERY PRESENCE OF GOD!!! HALLELUJAH!!! Our flesh misses him but our Spirit rejoices because He is receiving his great reward and complete Peace and Healing. God bless you and Have a Wonderful Resurrection Sunday, i pray with your loved ones.
