Octopus
Carnival Youth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

your eyes, my heart
octopus, from the stars
we walk round and round
opposite and upside down
I've always really liked you
otherwise I would have been a fool
and sometimes seems like it's all for nothing
but I wouldn't trade it for aother
your smile my heart
octopus from the stars
we laugh never stop
like a waterfall like a ticking clock
I've always really like you
otherwise I would have been a fool
and sometimes seems like it's all for nothing
but I wouldn't trade it for another
I guess I was right
walking around those nights
I guess I was right
right about you
take off your shoes
dance with me let it loose
we dance round and round
opposite and upside down
I've always really liked you
otherwise I would have been a fool
and sometimes seems like it's all for nothing
but I wouldn't trade it for another
I guess I was right
walking around those nights
I guess I was right
spending all my time
I guess I was right
living through all those fights

I guess I was right
right about you

Overall Meaning

The opening lyrics of “your eyes, my heart” suggest the connection that the singer has with someone else, who is symbolized as an “octopus from the stars.” The octopus connotes intelligence, adaptability, and flexibility, which may represent the various ways this person has captured the singer’s heart and mind. The lines “we walk round and round / opposite and upside down” suggest a cyclical pattern in the relationship, where the singer and the person have differing views or approaches that contrast and complement each other. Despite the differences, the singer expresses an ongoing affection for the person and implies that this feeling is mutual.

The repetition of “I’ve always really liked you / otherwise I would have been a fool” in the song reinforces the idea of a constant, genuine attachment, possibly one that has endured over time. The lines “and sometimes seems like it’s all for nothing / but I wouldn’t trade it for another” point to challenges or doubts that arise in the relationship, but the singer values the connection too much to let go. The lyrics “take off your shoes / dance with me let it loose / we dance round and round / opposite and upside down” could serve as an invitation to let go of inhibitions and enjoy the moment with the person they feel so strongly about.

My girlfriend made a mixed CD for me yesterday and put this band on it. She asked me if they sounded familiar. I told her the lyrics remind me of Brainstorm (Prata Vetra (I think that's how you spell it, sorry, I'm American)). Anyways, she said I was close and said that this was another Latvian band and that two of the band members are actually sons of the lead singer from Brainstorm. My girlfriend's grandfather was born and raised in Latvia, and she's been trying to get to know Latvian culture more since he passed away. Despite the unfortunate reason of learning more about Latvia, it has been fun! Lots of love for you all from America!

So nice to read your comment 💯🙏

@357reasons7

Americans know Latvian groups? that's nice!

@gumbuk9769

As a native Latvian living here all my life it surprised me to see an english comment on this video, it's pretty nice to hear that someone outside of the baltics cares about Latvian content. And because i use English more than Latvian i can formulate a proper response.

P.S.
you spelled it right, just that it doesn't have the extension marks (garumzīmes) on the ā and ē, for prāta vētra.
it literally just makes the vowels longer, Latvian has barely any complicated pronounciation.

@OfficialLoopingBeats

This is some serious world-class content, I'm really suprised I never knew about these guys! I honestly believe they will become big, not only in Baltics.

@OneFromNothing

They definetly should but content doesent mean shit these days in music buisness. Its all about promotion now.

@OfficialLoopingBeats

+OneFromNothing Well, you can't promote shitty content and expect great results too.

@ketrina5127

Man liekas, ka šī grupa ir labākais, kas noticis ar mūsdienu jaunatni. Es esmu tiik loti priecīga, ka nu ir tiik loti sasoditi labs contents.😱❤️❤️❤️

@KRIS_CK

Vārdi "kontents" vēl ar "c" un "ekspektācijas" ir sliktākais, kas noticis ar mūsdienu jaunatni.
