03 Male Supremacy
Carnivore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I live to war it's in my blood if I want it I take
The men I've killed the children slaves
And all the woman I've raped
Between my legs I've got what it takes to be called a man
Fighting, feasting, fucking all I can
Moonlight on horseback till death we will ride
Northern winds pushing us towards suicide
Mars god of war masturbating in rage
Wild libido I've freed from its cage

Male Supremacy

I eat the brains from my enemy's head
I proudly wear their scalps
I burn their towns to the ground to me the prisoners bow
Muscle, sweat, long hair and dirt leather, fur and chains
My uniform torn and worn covered with blood stains
Testosterone mates with adrenaline
Bearing a son of insane aggression
Woman will never know or understand
The power men feel to kill with their hands

After the war I come home weak and sore
I fall into your arms
We lie by the fire
You feed my desire with me safe and warm
Outside the wind blows cold
Inside the embers glow shelter from the storm

Years been away I fought night and day
For my land and my king
Woman it's true
I do battle for you, you my everything

When on the fur I make love to her
How her body sings

Overall Meaning

The song "03 Male Supremacy" by the metal band Carnivore, from their self-titled debut album, is a provocative and controversial exploration of toxic masculinity and aggression. The lyrics describe the violent and sexually aggressive behavior of a male warrior, who takes what he wants without regard for others. He revels in the power and adrenaline of battle, and sees women as objects to be conquered and dominated. The opening lines establish his violent tendencies and lack of empathy, as he boasts about killing men, enslaving children, and raping women. He defines himself by his ability to fight, feast, and fuck, and sees these activities as his birthright as a man. Against the backdrop of a northern landscape, he and his comrades ride horses into battle, embracing the thrill of danger and the possibility of death. The reference to Mars, the Roman god of war, masturbating in rage, underscores the primal and instinctual nature of violence and lust.

Throughout the song, the lyrics celebrate and justify male supremacy, portraying women as inferior and unable to comprehend the power and violence that men wield. Lines like "Woman will never know or understand/The power men feel to kill with their hands" suggest that women are fundamentally incapable of experiencing and expressing the same ferocity and aggression as men. However, the song also contains a hint of vulnerability and tenderness, as the male warrior returns home and seeks refuge in the arms of a woman. This brief moment of intimacy and connection is fleeting, however, as he soon returns to the battlefield, beckoned by his duty to his king and his homeland.

Overall, the lyrics of "03 Male Supremacy" offer a disturbing and unsettling vision of masculinity that glorifies violence and dehumanizes women. At the same time, the song is a powerful critique of toxic gender norms and the destructive effects of militarism.

Can't believe that there were so many hints of gothic metal in Carnivore. Man, that's something that wasn't even supposed to exist in the 80s but yet it did. Peter Steele is truly the first pioneer of gothic metal.

@fartkerson

Death SS, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, The Plasmatics? Ever heard of Wendy O. Williams? Listen to The Plasmatics song The Doom Song from 1981. The cover of the Metal Priestess album alone is worth a peek. But I agree that Peter Steele was in that sweet spot to help give birth to gothic metal. But Wendy doesn't get enough credit. She was just as sexually driven, dark, brooding, and crass as Peter. Sanctify this place!

And a little foreshadowing of future band Type O when he goes into the softer, deep voice in the middle section. Love that part.

@dominon929

Peter Steele went through quite a sound transition when he goes from being very loud and tough in Carnivore and then tones it down by forming Type O Negative.

@tadakatsu14

Dom Russo I actually began as a type o fan but now that I hear Carnivore, I think I by far enjoy this hardcore version of him 😳
