In May 2007 Caro Emerald got a phonecall from Dutch producers Jan van Wieringen and David Schreurs. With another producer, they'd written a song for a Japanese pop act with the acclaimed songwriter Vince Degiorgio (Atomic Kitten, A-Teens, N'Synch, Love Inc. a.o.). But their demo singer couldn't make it. They needed something quickly, and that's how Caro got to record the demo of "Back It Up".
Caro liked the song so much that she added it to her live repertoire. A year later she got the chance to perform "Back It Up" on local TV station AT5 in Amsterdam. It caught on right away: viewers just wouldn't stop calling and e-mailing about that lovely girl with her catchy song. Caro and a friend produced a no budget video which ended up on Youtube, and again, the response was overwhelming. People literally begged her to sell the song on iTunes.
But with only one song on the repertoire, Caro and her team decided to focus on a full album first. Inspired by films and music from the 40's and 50's they started working on new songs and ideas. Fall 2008, David flew over to Toronto to write with Degiorgio, and returned with 7 great tracks and a clear direction for the album. A few months later, Vince came to Amsterdam to finish the album. The result: an exciting and hugely accessible record, featuring ballroom jazz, cinematic tangoes, groovin' jazz tracks and infectious mambo's that sound like they were recorded in 1951 in Hollywood's most famous recording studios. But the smoking beats, catchy songs and inventive production tell it's actually 2009 that Caro Emerald is putting her name on the map.
Just One Dance

I've been watching you since the moment you arrived
A white suit from London, and shoes from Paris
Don't'cha wanna spend about an hour with me
The scent and the aroma refuses to breathe
It's more like a haze that is trying to succeed
It's drawing me in and pulling me to you
All it costs is just a minute now
For one dollar you can show me how
I'll take your hand and then your worries too
In just one dance I'll make your dreams come true
Don't know why you play hard to get
I'm here to kiss away any thoughts of your regret
The silk tie from Siam shows elegance and class
Handsome as the heavens that a film would never cast
But underneath the mask I see the skin of a man
Smooth and seductive who's really got a plan
It's drawing me in, magnetically to you
All it costs is just a minute now
For one dollar you can show me how
I'll take your hand and then your worries too
In just one dance I'll make your dreams come true
I'm like the smoke on your fire
Smoldering endless desire
How long will your flame burn
All it costs is just a minute now
For one dollar you can show me how
I'll take your hand and then your worries too
In just one dance I'll make your dreams come true
The song "Just One Dance" by Caro Emerald is about a woman who approaches a man she finds attractive at a party, asking for just one dance. It's a seductive and flirtatious song, as she describes how she's been watching him since he arrived, admiring his white suit from London and shoes from Paris. She's drawn to him like a haze and the scent and aroma refuse to breathe, and she describes how every thought she has turns the language blue. She tells him that all it would cost him is just a minute to dance with her, and promises to take his hand and his worries too, making his dreams come true in just one dance.
The lyrics paint a picture of a confident and alluring woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. The man she's approaching is initially portrayed as playing hard to get, but she sees through his mask to the smooth and seductive skin of a man who really has a plan. The song is filled with metaphors and imagery that suggest that the attraction between them is intense and irresistible, like the smoke on a fire that smolders with endless desire.
Overall, "Just One Dance" is a song about seizing the moment and taking a chance on the possibility of something thrilling and passionate. It's about giving in to temptation and letting oneself be swept away in the excitement of the moment.
