happiness
Carole and Paula Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness

Every day I reminesce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue

Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Carole and Paula's song, "Happiness," portrays the longing for a loved one's presence after a long day. The song is a ballad that begins with the singer expressing their sadness towards the end of the day, signified by the "evening shadows." They long for the company of the person they love and miss their happiness. The second verse continues with the singer reminiscing about their past with their lover and dreaming of their tender kiss. They miss their partner and are always thinking of them. The chorus repeats the phrase "My happiness," signifying the purpose of their longing.

The third verse continues with the sadness that seems to stretch a million years since they've shared their dreams with their lover. However, there is hope for the future as the singer declares that they will hold their lover again, and there will be "no blue memories then." The final part of the song emphasizes that a grey or blue sky would not matter as long as they are with their lover. The song is one of love, loss, and longing, with the message of cherishing what makes us happy.

I absolutely loved them!!! I remember watching this on our old couch! I still sing the story box song and the theme song. I had forgotten the goodbye song, but when I saw it here, I was SO SAD!!! I remembered all of a sudden being like, "Oh, no! It's over" when the window would start to close. :) I miss those days.
