Wheeler is also a founding member of the female vocal group 'Brown Sugar' along with vocalist Kofi whose solo hit "Black is My Colour" is today considered in reggae circles a classic. In fact the two were re-united in October 2005 at the Metropolitan Black Police Association's annual gala at The Barbican in London.
After her success with Soul II Soul, Wheeler enbarked on a solo career, and released two albums: UK Blak (1990) and Beach of the War Goddess (1993). Her biggest solo success single is "Livin' In The Light" from her first solo album, which hit #53 on the Hot 100 and spent a week at #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1989. It also reached the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart.
Wheeler's only other solo Top 40 hit single was the title track from UK Blak. She also featured with Soul II Soul on the soundtrack to the Angela Bassett movie, How Stella Got Her Groove Back in 1998. More recently, Wheeler featured on Richard X's 2003 album, Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1
This Is Mine

Your philosophy of family love
Saying we could all be stronger together
Build a foundation for the yout's coming up
Solid theory, felt like the right one
Working beside you took up my position
Success, called us to the top of the ladder
This is mine, don't come any closer
Oh no, you're way too close
This is mine, don't come any closer
Now you're dissing us, yet call us your sisters
But things can never be the same again
From now on I'll be keeping my distance
Bad company I can't entertain
You said you'd never turn your back on anyone
Empty promises all you've ever given
Success called us to the top of the ladder
But your words are always around
This is mine, don't come any closer
Don't come any closer, no, oh...
This is mine, don't come any closer
Whatever happened to family love, babe
This is mine, don't come any closer
You said you'd never turn you back on me, oh, no
This is mine, don't come any closer
Hey-hey, yeah
Whoo, yeah
Ooh, ooh-ooh...
Ooh-ooh-ooh...
Success is a pure fact
Now watch me big up my chest and you know that
As for the concept, girl, this child belongs to me
Belongs to I, to moi, yet not clear to see
Through-the fact is I keep my distance
And though I'm drifting, you're persisting
To rise to greater heights, will you need me
To struggle, fess or fight, will you leave me
Although my heart is pure, people force me
To read between the lines of this story
The end result leaves a thought like an odor
And this is mine, don't come any closer
The family vibes, coincides in a small pack
That's why I turned my back, but life's like that
I search and I search in my mind and I find
This is mine, yes, this is mine!
You said you'd never turn your back on anyone
Success called us to the top of the ladder
But your words are always around, babe
This is mine, don't come any closer
Don't come closer, no, hey
This is mine, don't come any closer
I'll never see for the things you believe in, yeah
This is mine, don't come any closer
Don't come any closer, no
This is mine, don't come any closer
This is mine
Things can never be the same again
The song "This Is Mine" by Caron Wheeler talks about a relationship that has deteriorated over time. It starts with the singer reminiscing about how they started with the same philosophy of family love, building a foundation for the youth, and being stronger together. They were successful together, climbed the ladder of success, but then, suddenly, something changed. The singer says, "But you turned saying 'don't come any closer'." The person they once knew as a friend, turned their back on them, and everything changed. The singer is keeping their distance now and says, "Bad company I can't entertain." She still questions why the person turned their back on them and what happened to the family love they once shared. Ultimately, the singer accepts that things can never be the same again.
The song portrays the universal conflict between loyalty and success. It speaks of relationships that change when power and success come into play. It is often seen that as people climb the ladder, they tend to forget about those who they were with when everything started. The song portrays a sense of betrayal and loss that one feels when people they once trusted turn their backs on them.
