For All We Know
Carpenters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
We've got a lifetime to share
So much to say and as we go from day to day
I'll feel you close to me
But time alone will tell
Let's take a lifetime to say
I knew you well
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow for all we know

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
Let's take a lifetime to say
I knew you well

For only time will tell us so
And love may grow for all we know

Overall Meaning

The Carpenters’ song “For All We Know” is an intimate, expressive ballad that speaks of two people coming together, even though they may be strangers in many ways. The lyrics express the hope that the two of them will love and become close as time goes on. The song opens with the words “Love, look at the two of us, strangers in many ways,” indicating that the two people in question may not know each other well yet, but are willing to take the time to get to know each other.

As the song progresses, the chorus acknowledges that only time will tell whether their love will grow, but suggests that the two of them have a lifetime to figure it out. Throughout the lyrics, the song paints a picture of two people who are willing to take things slow and get to know each other before jumping into any kind of commitment. The words “I’ll feel you close to me, but time alone will tell” suggest that they are both willing to be patient and let the love between them grow naturally.

In short, “For All We Know” is a poignant and introspective song about two people who are willing to take a chance on love, even though they are strangers to each other in many ways.

I wish Karen loved herself, as much as we all loved her!

@greggb5819

She didn't not love herself. She suffered with body dismorphia leading to anorexia. Karen looked in the mirror and didn't see what you and I did. Please don't judge her. 🙏

@inescollins5176

She probably had low self-worth/self-esteem
thanks to her Mother.
Her mother was too controlling and critical, so Karen became anorexic, because she
could control
how much or little she would eat.

@@greggb5819 nobody is judging. That industry is tough not everyone can breeze right through it. Karen amongst many others. And yes there are stage mothers who messed up their kids. Natalie Wood one perfect example GOD REST HER SOUL. Poor kid had a torturous life🙏
