Pete and Sam have been collaborating since the mid 90's when they played together in Edie's Playpen - also from Brisbane. Following the inevitable split of Edies', Sam joined the moderately successful Mocking Room, while Pete regressed to his home studio to continue writing.
In 2008 Sam and Pete started a new musical collaboration. The bands first material was guitar-based and augmented with computer-sequenced bass, drums and other instruments. In September 2008, Cartoon Physics released their debut CD, a four-song effort called: "the Blind Fingers ep" . A full-length, 11-song album; "per ardua ad astra" followed 9 months later in July, 2009.
Pete and Sam invited former Edies Playpen bass player; Ted Patterson to be part of their next recording project; a 6-song, all-acoustic CD. Following a long weekend recording at "Chateau Patterson" in Kenilworth, CP gained a new member; Mark Whitmore on bass. Additional recording sessions were held in Brisbane with Mark, and his daughter; Sarah on Cello.
"The Kenilworth Sessions" was released in April, 2010. Shortly after, Simon Thomas joined the band as drummer and Mark left to be replaced on bass by Jim Fleming. In September, 2010 the band started playing shows, mainly in the Brisbane inner-city. They quickly became established as part of the emerging live scene in Brisbane. In May 2011 they entered the studio with producer; James North to record a new single. "Auchenflower to Central Station" was released in July.
