Noel, I am hesitating between C7 and CX trucks, it seems from some reviews that the CX have the same surf carving capabilities than the C7, with less weight, parts, less maintenance, etc...From your experience with both, would you say I can train with your program with the CX or must I get the C7?

hey noel - just signed up as a patreon because i think you and your team put together some really great content for the surfing community. one suggestion that i have is for patreons is maybe do a raffle once a month - maybe give a pair of recently reviewed fins, or a leash , or a stomp pad, , a surf n show tshirt or whatever to members who support you in this fashion.

Excited. I have a Carver Resin with C7 truck, carving almost everyday. These boards definitely improved my form and technique ASAP.

Additionally it will expose bad technique.

Hey Noel, stoked on this tutorial series coming up, I'm in. Need to get a Carver board though. It seems the Yago model you showed might be the right fit. I'm 150 lbs, 5'8" and ride boards that are higher volume than you and many would recommend by a few liters. This is because I'm 55 y/o and really like it for the extra help in paddling and wave catching. I'm an intermediate surfer but even at my age wanting to progress some with the help of your vids. So Yago model or ?? Mahalo for all your killer reviews and what's to come!

I like the Yago Dora model that is 30.75' .... I have not tried the Yago model at 33.75". I also have the Taylor Knox model that's 31.25' and its to big for me. It feels a bit bulky... to wide so it takes more for me to turn it quickly. The Pod Mod I have is a bit shorter and it turns quickly due to the shorter wheel base but it's also narrow and skinny compared to my Yago model that's 30.75'. I suggest the Yago at 30.75' for you and if it feels a tad on the big side I suggest you loosen the trucks as you get used to it.

The best spot to get the surf skate going once you have the hang on the flat is to go to a biking velodrome. Lots if towns here hVe a concrete velodrome that is not too steep but provides 200m of walls to work your way around. Once you can shred the velodrome you can hop into the bowl at the skate park pretty safely and easily as well. No need to drop in on a surf skate just start at the bottom and work your way up the walls

Ha! I just finished this last week researching surfskates because I couldn't get in the water. Just bought a Carvestik by Carveboard yesterday for cheap. I'll see if I can keep up with this... this thing is way different than any skateboard I've ever ridden.

I mean, I can see going Performer fronts and reactor rear quads cause the rake 'jump' is not that big.

Guy Katz Mixing Quad rears for performance surfing is excellent. For example.. if you put MF side fins you can use Performer Quad rears which have more Rake compared to Reactors. Using Performer Quad rears with your MF side fins will promote more carving compared to using Reactor Quad rears which will promote a bit more pivot. However your side fin templates are bigger than your Quad Rears so they will dominate and dictate the lines you draw. Choosing the MF as your sides will promote carving and more drive... consider pairing them with Reactor Quad rears and your board will feel looser and more responsive compared to the Performer Quad rears with more Rake.

Have you tried a Onewheel? There are a lot of things you can do on a Onewheel that you can't do on a skateboard, like snaps.

WorkForAvocados Snaps on a Carver are a bit harder... they are more about working on your carves and using your rails to generate more speed. Now Carver makes a street skate called the (Bel Air)version for snaps, airs, etc... it looks and feels like a regular skateboard but you can still generate speed like the street Carvers I introduced in this episode. Carver with C7 front truck. The Smoothstar is good too but it can be hard to control in speed drills for intermediate skaters.

Yannick Soyez Yes.. Smoothstar boards are good too. Sometimes they can be a little hard to control at high speeds but just start with that for now. They have excellent turning radius and great for carving.

Just skate a regular skateboard. A double kick sector 9 works good and loosen the trucks. You want to get better, learn airs, learn 360s, a carver isn't going to do that for you. Just skate everyday you can't surf.

Just get a wrench and loosen the screw in the middle of the truck.... not the kingpin like a regular skateboard. You will see it just look at the truck a little and you will see it.
