With his songs influenced by everything from 1980s British New Wave music to 1970s folk music, Brothers has achieved critical and commercial success with his independent releases All the Rage and Waiting for Your Letter, both of which reached the top of the iTunes folk charts. "Blue Eyes" has been downloaded over 50,000 times and broke the Top Fifty on the iTunes singles chart. On the web, Brothers has found success on MySpace, where he has over 8 million plays on his music page (2/2011).
Brothers's songs have appeared on the NBC sitcom Scrubs, the FOX mystery Bones, the WB's Smallville, and the successful medical dramas Grey's Anatomy and ER. One more night it doesn't feel
There are movies playing in your eyes
You dream of our fortunes, but you're wrong
I don't belong to you
The moon is the only friend I have outside
One more drink, and I'll be healed
I told you the words, and I knew it was a lie
I wish I could offer an appeal
You're wrong, I don't belong
But you're wrong, I don't belong to you
What I'd give for that first night when you were mine
You were mine
Tried with all that I have to keep you alive
Alive
I wasn't taught this way
With a thousand things to say
I was born with a broken heart
What I'd give for that first night when you were mine
Thought you were mine
So I'll put this cigarette to bed
Pull some sheets from off your side
I put my arm around you safe in the night
Still dreaming of fortune, but you're wrong
I don't belong
You're wrong
I don't belong
You're wrong
I don't belong
I don't belong
I don't belong
The lyrics of Cary Brothers's song "Belong" seem to be about a tumultuous relationship. The singer wakes up next to their partner, feeling lonely and disconnected. They mention that there are "movies playing" in their partner's eyes, possibly meaning that their partner has dreams and ambitions that the singer does not share or support. The singer also repeatedly states that they don't belong to their partner, possibly indicating a lack of love or commitment. The line "I wish I could offer an appeal" suggests that the singer wants to leave but feels obligated to stay. Later in the song, the singer reflects on their past with the partner and expresses regret for not being able to keep things as they were.
Overall, the song seems to be a sad reflection on a relationship that isn't working out. The lyrics are introspective and melancholic, expressing a sense of longing and regret. The repeated line "I don't belong" reinforces the idea that the singer feels disconnected and unfulfilled in the relationship.

The amount of times I played this song is too many to count. I am in love with this song and I would watch the episode of the Vampire Diaries that has this in it just to hear the song again. I'm also a dancer and whenever I feel like just dancing I play this song over and over again. Beyond amazing!

In death, you're the one that made me feel most alive. Damn Elena, when you become such a poet.
Also, this song playing in the background during a literally fiery kiss, like as they kissed, the fireplace lit up, was just beautifully done.
