I think I'm getting lost for a while
Tired of getting stoned
And thinking 'bout you in the night
So I'll file away all my dreams
Though I still believe in everything
I wished your love away
I wished your love away
Honestly over you
Honestly over you
One lie short of true
Honestly over you
Looking for some hope
Polished off the whiskey tonight
You turned a man to stone
For looking at you straight in the eyes
So I'll drive away with all my things
Though I've a faint belief in everything
I wished your love away
I wished your love away
Honestly over you
Honestly over you
And I'll tell the world
Honestly over you
I wished your love away?
I wished your love away?
I wished your love away?
I wished your love away?
The lyrics of "Honestly" suggest that the singer has finally decided to move on from a toxic relationship. He admits that he's been getting lost in thoughts of his former lover, but now he's ready to let go. The line "I'll file away all my dreams, though I still believe in everything" shows that he's not giving up hope entirely. He still believes in love and the future, but he knows that the person he was hoping to share that with is not the right one for him. The repetition of the lines "I wished your love away, honestly over you" drives home the idea that he's done with this person and is ready to move on.
The lyrics also suggest that the relationship was not healthy for the singer. He talks about getting stoned and drinking whiskey to cope with the pain of loving this person. He says that looking at them straight in the eyes turned him to stone. This implies that there was something about the relationship that made him feel trapped or unable to be himself. By saying that he's "one lie short of true," he's admitting that he was not able to be honest with himself or his partner while they were together.
Overall, the lyrics of "Honestly" are about the pain of leaving a relationship behind, but also the hope that comes with moving on. The singer is admitting that this person has caused him a lot of pain and he's finally ready to let go. However, he's not giving up on love altogether and still has hope for a better future.
