Beginning violin lessons at the age of 8, Stratton followed quickly with cello lessons at 10, the piano at 11, and guitar at 16. It was through the piano that Stratton discovered a passion for writing and performing songs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, Casey signed with Magic Records. Work then began on the recordings that would eventually become his first full-length release, The Giver and the Grave Digger, which was released in 1996.
In 1997, after deciding not to renew his contract with Magic Records, Stratton began his first self-produced album, Lily Sleeps.
In the summer of 2000 Stratton moved to Chicago where he began a nearly two year hiatus from the record industry. He immersed himself in writing and recorded an independent album called The Winter Children. Many of these tracks would be re-recorded later and included on his Sony release Standing at the Edge.
Stratton's 6th studio album, "DIVIDE", was released in October 2005 on Stratton's independent label, Sleeping Pill Music. His next album, The Crossing, was released in April 2007. This was followed by Orbit, digitally released on February 5, 2008.
Memories and Photographs was released in September 2009, followed by A Winter Moon, an album of holiday music, in December 2009. Casey's next project, Myth & Stars, largely based on Greek Mythology, was released on September 21, 2010.
For Reasons Unexplained
Casey Stratton Lyrics

I don't know what happened
A smashing sound and suddenly
I'm falling to the ground
If I had just held on for once
If I had been more
Confident in myself
If you had not been painful for me
If you had been more honest with me
I might have made it
Sorrow comes again
For reasons unexplained
I come to you
But I am not the same
You sense my fear
Tell me it's ok
A cross to bear
I pull to far away
All the world can see right through me
I feel shattered and paralyzed
Mistakes have been made that left me
Crashing through the ice
I feel so alone
If I had just stood up for once
If I had walked right out the door and into
Something more than we could get
If you had only learned how to stop
If you had been more than you are
Then maybe we could have survived
Without regrets
Without the same tired thing
I will release you
Like shooting stars
Of who we are
Of who we were then
The lyrics of Casey Stratton's "For Reasons Unexplained" are a poignant reflection on a relationship that has fallen apart. The song begins with the singer expressing confusion over what went wrong, as everything had been going so well until a sudden, jarring event caused them to fall to the ground. The verses that follow are a series of "if only" statements, with the singer lamenting the various things that could have prevented their relationship from breaking down - if they had been more confident, less afraid, more honest, or more able to communicate with each other. The chorus sees the singer reaching out to their former partner, or perhaps to a friend or confidante, seeking comfort but realizing that they have been changed by the breakup. They feel alone and shattered, as if mistakes have caused them to crash through the ice. The song ends with the singer acknowledging that they need to let go of the past and move on, like shooting stars from who they were before.
Overall, the lyrics of "For Reasons Unexplained" are a heartfelt examination of the pain and confusion that can accompany the end of a meaningful relationship. The imagery of falling and crashing adds a sense of physicality to the emotional turmoil being described, while the "if only" statements convey a sense of regret for missed opportunities. The chorus is a particularly powerful moment, as the singer seeks comfort but realizes that they are no longer the person they were before, and the final lines of the song suggest a bittersweet acknowledgment that they need to let go of the past in order to become something new.
