All members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. Ulalume was the lead singer for The Casuals ( Punk, New Wave band) and DenseUndergrowth (Avant-garde trio ) Carlos and Walter had been playing together for many years in Decibel (an experimental band) and Size (a punk band). Humberto had been playing with MCC (Underground ).
Casino Shanghai signed a record deal to create the album "Film" with WEA / COMROCK, a label owned by Chela Braniff and Juan Navarro. The album was released in December of 1985.
The music of Casino Shanghai was used for the soundtrack of "Cronicas de Familia" directed by Diego Lopez that was nominated for the Ariel award for best original soundtrack in1986. They had a guest appearance in the movie " Juana La Cantinera" directed by José Loza. Soon after Humberto Alvarez left the band.
Ulalume, Carlos & Walter recorded Le Tombeau D'Edgar Poe & L'Action Minimal 1986 as part of a solo EP for Ulalume that was later incorporated into the repertoire of Casino Shanghai with the participation of Eddie Rubello, Carlos Alvarado and Alfonso André.
In 2005 Le Tombeau was released in compilation called Backup Expediente Tecno Pop under the label Noise Control mixed by Pepe Mogt.
Casino Shanghai released their now classic debut album Film on CD in 2013, digitally re-mastered at Universal Studios.The CD includes 2 Bonus tracks Le Tombeau d' Edgar Poe (haunted version) and Cuerpos Huecos. CS played various concerts in Mexico City in 2013 and 2014.
