You wanna life that I can't live
You need anything but me, baby
You want commitment but I don't
I say I will but boy I won't
I don't have time to spend forever, baby
Oh, you make me sick
Why can't you accept it?
It's so much harder than you know
Letting you go, oh oh oh
Look behind my face
Can you still see me?
Or am I gone, just a fantasy?
I look into your eyes
Grows insanity
Or are you searching for that fantasy?
You say it's me but it's just her
You don't accept me and it hurts
You avoid the real me, baby
I'm better off just by myself
Don't need nobody else
Stop playing mind games
Oh, you make me sick
Why can't you accept it?
You've made an image who you think is me
It's so much harder than you know
Letting you go, oh, oh, oh
Look behind my face
Can you still see me?
Or am I gone just a fantasy?
I look into your eyes
Grows insanity
Or are you searching for that fantasy?
I try to show you
Who I really am
But you're just a boy
I need a, a man
I need a man for me
No matter fantasy
Look behind can you still see?
I need a
I need a
I need a
Don't need no fantasy for me
I need a
I need a
I need a
Don't need your fanta...
Your fantasy
The lyrics of Cassie Steele's song "Fantasy" speak of a situation where the singer is aware that the person she is with wants something she is not capable of giving. She is being pressured into making promises of commitment that she isn't ready to make just yet. To her, he has created an image of her that is not her true self, and he's not willing to accept who she truly is. She knows that she needs a man who understands and accepts her for who she is instead of one who's searching for a fantasy of her.
The chorus highlights the difference between her true self and the image her partner has created of her. She questions whether he can still see her real self or if she has become just a fantasy to him. Moreover, she's aware of how he's not accepting her despite her attempts to show him who she is. The lyrics are a representation of the conflict that exists when someone holds an image of you in their mind that doesn't match who you are, and the difficulty of letting someone go, despite knowing it's the right thing.

At the very beginning, we are told that Nate is in love. We are shown that Cassie and Maddy are looking at him, but their position in the frame is not symmetrical because there is an empty space to the right of Cassie. By what happens next, it becomes clear who is missing here. Jules.
Rue talks about how Maddy brought out the worst in Nate and Cassie could bring out the best.
(Here we must remember that Ru is unreliable in her stories and only interprets what is happening on the screen).
After all, no one assumes that a guy like Nate's confession of his feelings and love for Jules can occur without an internal struggle. This is exactly what we see in his fantasies about "Cassie" (I put the name Cassie in quotation marks because these visions are not about the real Cassie, but about an idealized image created by Nate to fight with Jules)
- Sexual fantasies about "Cassie" are constantly interrupted by outbursts with Jules. It's about Nate trying to convince himself that Jules isn't sexually attracted to him. But her photos win it out in the end.
- Since he fails to win the first round, Nate proceeds to deny his feelings for Jules through the idea of reproduction and the nuclear family. He tells "Cassie" to have kids.
- And finally the most important thing. It's Cal's appearance and the swimming pool scene. This scene shows what Nate is trying to hide from in this perfect fantasy. Namely, from thoughts about the disc with Jules. While Cal and "Cassie" swim, Nate acts as an observer, and then Cal leads "Clean Cassie" out of the pool and symbolically gives her to Nate. In reality, Cal tells Jules after sex that he likes that she is clean. What in fantasy makes "Cassie" pure in reality makes Jules and Nate's feelings for her dirty and poisoned. Afterwards, "Cassie" and Nate kiss and his father "suddenly dies of a heart attack". It's Nate's absolute hatred for Cal for what he did.
(It was after this that Nate remembers that Maddy stole Jules's disc from him and it must be returned.)
Next, Nate reflects on how his life might have turned out if he went back (implied before watching his father's CDs) what kind of person he could become. He has a seizure and visions, mostly of a sexual nature. There are also shots of Cassie giving birth and one very interesting vision, extremely darkened and inverted where Nate hugs Jules (it is interesting because there was nothing like this in the series). I think it shows his deepest feelings. Nate then hears a baby crying. What can symbolize as the fact that he is temporarily
conquered his attraction to Jules, or the fact that Nate, as it were, was reborn for a new life.

"Sometimes he just wishes his dad would drop dead from a heart attack" hit me hard. Everyone talks about daddy issues but this line really portraits hating your dad to the point of killing him to free yourself from trauma. I don't like Nate but his character is so complex it's amazing.
