Jaded

When it feel like no ones loving you
But I'm watching you
And I'll never hold you down
And they say
That souls can never fade
But along the way
It seem your shadow was erased
Life is jaded, love had faded
Let me take you away from here oh
Let me kiss you, they won't miss you
Let me lift you away from here
Aren't you paranoid?
When it feels like someone's watching you?
But I'm protecting you
And you need not be afraid
And they said
To follow voices in your head
And that's where I fed
My soul when I was dead
Life is jaded, love had faded
Let me take you away from here oh
Let me kiss you, they won't miss you
Let me lift you away from here
In Cassie Steele's song "Jaded," the artist speaks to the experience of feeling alone and forgotten. The opening lines of the first verse capture this emotion perfectly - the cold outside is a metaphor for the internal loneliness that one feels when it seems like no one is loving them. However, Cassie Steele asserts that she is watching and will never let the listener down, which is an important reminder that even when it seems as though no one is there, there is always someone who cares. The second half of the verse raises the issue of souls fading away. While it may be true that souls cannot fade, sometimes the struggles of life can cause one's spark to dim. Perhaps this is what happened to the listener's shadow, which has been erased along the way.
The second verse delves more deeply into the issue of fear and paranoia. Steele acknowledges the feeling of being watched, but evokes a sense of protection and safety by claiming that she will defend the listener from whatever they are afraid of. Following the voices in one's head is often seen as a negative thing, but Steele argues that it was there that she fed her soul when it was dead. This is another reminder that just because something seems like a bad thing doesn't mean it necessarily is - sometimes our struggles are what help us grow and develop as people.
