Cast Ensemble Lyrics

A time and place for us
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow
Some day
The lyrics to Cast Ensemble's song "Finale," specifically the lines "There's a place for us, a time and place for us; Hold my hand and we're halfway there; Hold my hand and I'll take you there; Somehow, someday, somewhere," are about hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. The "place" and "time" referred to in the first line symbolize a better future, a place where the characters of the song can be together and happy. The second line is about relying on one another and finding strength in each other's presence, and the third line emphasizes that this future is not immediate or certain, but it will happen eventually--"somehow, someday, somewhere."
The song was originally written for the Broadway musical "West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, and is sung by the character Maria. It originally appeared in the show's second act as a love duet between Maria and Tony, but was later rearranged for a full ensemble performance in the finale. The message of the song is that despite the tragic events of the show that have led to the deaths of many characters, hope remains for a better future.

If it weren't for these uploads, I don't think I ever would have found this musical!!! Thank you again for being generous and sharing these clips. Such a shame that it didn't even get a single Tony nomination... Surely it deserved it because the music is fantastic. Was pretty much in tears by the end of it. Gonna go read the novel now..

Good luck with the novel! It's the single most densiest, borderline self-indulgent philosophical fiction I have ever read.
Thanks for watching the whole thing!
