Galavant
Cast of Galavant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Way back in days of old
There was a legend told
About a hero known as Galavant
Square jaw and perfect hair
Cojones out to there
There was no hero quite like Galavant

Tough, plus every other manly value
Mess with him, he'll disembowel you
Yay, he ruled in every way
A fairy-tale cliche
And people called him Galavant

The man we're speaking of,
He had a lady love,
And Madalena, she was one fair maiden
Long legs and perfect skin
A body built for sin
With cleavage you could hold a whole parade in

Ah, true love was never this, this ecstatic
Nor as wildly acrobatic
Yes! He loved her to excess
Thrice daily more or less
And she'd be screaming, "Galavant!"

One tiny problem soon would arise:
Richard, a nearby king of wealth and stature,
He watched Madalena, lust in his eyes,
And he asked her for her hand
Well, more like a demand,
Well, more like had his henchmen snatch her

Which brings us to today
The royal wedding day
No one can stop it now but Galavant
Poor Madalena waits
Behind King Richard's gates
For the arrival of her Galavant

Now, at last, begins our true adventure
Epic, wild, a real butt-clencher!
So, huzzah and tally ho!

Sit back and here we go!
Attend the tale of Galavant

Overall Meaning

The song "Galavant" serves as the opening number for the TV series of the same name. The lyrics depict the titular character's legend and his love for Madalena. Galavant is described as the quintessential hero, embodying all the manly virtues and a cliche of fairy-tale legends. He is strong, brave, and not to be messed with, with people calling out his name every time he does anything heroic. Madalena is introduced in the lyrics as Galavant's love interest, described in the most exaggerated terms possible, with long legs, perfect skin, and cleavage that can hold a parade. They love each other intensely and are said to engage in wildly acrobatic sex sessions. However, their happiness is threatened by King Richard, a wealthy king who desires Madalena and effectively kidnaps her to make her his bride. The opening song ends with the wedding day and Madalena waiting for Galavant's arrival.

The clever and humorous lyrics of "Galavant" reflect the tone of the entire TV series. The show is a comedic musical adventure set in a medieval fantasy world. The song introduces the world and the characters in a fun and engaging way, with witty wordplay that sets the stage for the rest of the series. The song's melody is catchy and upbeat, contributing to the tongue-in-cheek humor of the overall show. The lyrics also provide an interesting twist on the typical fairy tale romance, painting Madalena and Galavant as anything but the wholesome, pure-hearted royalty found in most similar stories.

Looking back a year hence,
Things got a little tense,
Regarding this show here, it's Galavant.

Beautiful music score,
It had true love and more,
But ratings were quite low on Galavant.

Wow! I'd say this show really had it all,
But now we see it came to fall!

No! They took my favorite show!
To make us watch John Snow.
Please give us back our Ga-la-vaaaant!

...

This show I'm telling you,
It earned its season two,
Even though the ratings tried to stop it.

So many cameos,
The paid out through the nose,
And then in season two they had to top it!

Ahh! The songs were so beau-ti-fully written,
Second only to the writers' scriptin'

YES! I rewatch to excess!
Thrice a month more or less!
And then I'm screaming Ga-la-VANT!!

Music in prime time, Cop Rock defines
Glee had it’s hit parade of classic pop song
A new batch of tunes with weekly deadlines
Is a recipe for doom
Locked in his piano room
Poor Menken hadn’t slept in so long!

Now there’s a gaping hole
In television’s soul
We’re jonesing from a drought of Galavant
But yet the faithful wait
To learn our hero’s fate
Please Hulu bring us back our Galavant

Still, there’s always chances of survival
Brothers! Sisters! Pray for revival!
Lo! We’ll always sing the tunes!
Our merry band of loons,
Will always treasure Gaaaaal-laaaaaa-vaaaaaant!!!!!!!!!!!

[Reprise in minor key:]

Alas... it must be said:
The show's now quite dead.
We won't be seeing more of Galavant!
'Least not on ABC;
They canceled season three,
Could this be it for our Galavant?
Will we see more of King Richard,
or the rest in moving pictures?
No! But maybe we can go
on Broadway, make a show!
The musical of Ga~la~vant~!

Although the years have passed,
Our love for this shall last,
We’ll never say goodbye to Galavant!

There are no dulcet tones,
In that show Game of Thrones,
So true fans keep rewatching Galavant!

After two years it’s still cancelled,
For more of this my soul is sold!

But!
At least we can still hear,
The music in our ear!
So hear is one last chear for
Gaaaaa~laaaaa~VAAAAAAAAAAAANT~

I actually prefer the alternate lyrics regarding their love life:

"The man we're speaking of
He had a lady love
A total goddess known as Madalena
Long legs and perfect skin
A body built for sin
And more than just a touch of nymphomania
Oh, true love has never been more hotter
Every night he'd you-know-what her
Then, they'd you-know what again
Six times or even ten
And she'd be screaming "Galavaaaaah!"

I love how King Richard is portrayed in this first song and he comes off as this menacing villain, like a Tywin Lannister. Your typical evil, cunning king. And then he speaks in the very next scene, all that goes out the window and Richard quickly becomes the BEST CHARACTER EVER!

Geeebuttersnap

Only lassie can look so mean yet he down right hilarious.

Alisasi

And Madalena is that sweet little fair lady to then go straight into Lady Macbeth a season later

A seriously underrated and unknown show that deserves so much more recognition.

Doesn't change the fact that this show is still so unknown. But, yes, I hope S2 is popular enough to bring yet another season.

+Finn Underwood They don't even seem confident in that, although they certainty deserve it
