Danny's Den
Castlecomer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the times they go so fast, look forward don't look back,
It gets ahead of me, so I sit reflectively,
Did I travel seven seas, or cure a rare disease?
Did I lie with you at night? Or just get drunk and fight.

Camel through the eye, Danny the lion's guy,
Teach me what I know, oh these years did fly,
I tamed the beasts you sent, controlled the elements,
I loved, I lost, I cried, I took it in my stride,

Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring, what I said I meant everything,
I was battered black and blue, but you got, you got me through.

Camel through the eye, Danny the lion's guy,
Teach me what I know, oh these years did fly,
I tamed the beasts you sent, controlled the elements,
I loved, I lost, I cried, I took it in my stride,

Why do I run from myself, I run from me,
I'm so old and wise now, I'm so young and free.
Why do I run from myself, I run from me,
I'm so old and wise now, I'm so young and free.
Why do I run from myself, I run from me,
I'm so old and wise now, I'm so young and free.

Camel through the eye, Danny the lion's guy,
Teach me what I know, oh these years did fly,

I tamed the beasts you sent, controlled the elements,
I loved, I lost, I cried, I took it in my stride.

Overall Meaning

The opening lines - "Oh the times they go so fast, look forward don't look back, it gets ahead of me, so I sit reflectively" – signify a sense of regret for not savoring the moments in life, but rather letting them pass without much thought. The lyrics then delve into a nostalgic recollection of the singer's life, asking themselves if they have accomplished anything worthwhile or just wasted time. The lines "Did I travel seven seas, or cure a rare disease? Did I lie with you at night? Or just get drunk and fight" captures the essence of such contemplative thought, as the singer wonders if they have achieved any real sense of fulfillment or meaning.

The line "Camel through the eye, Danny the lion's guy, teach me what I know, oh these years did fly" suggests that Danny has guided the singer throughout their life, teaching them valuable skills and lessons. Moreover, the chorus "I tamed the beasts you sent, controlled the elements, I loved, I lost, I cried, I took it in my stride" emphasizes a sense of resilience and triumph over adversity, with Danny providing the support system and strength needed to face challenges head-on.

@Nigel Stroud I'm not sure if you know about the version called "eyes" by
waiting4vizzini. I think it's just the original not the version you're talking about.

@mysterywillow7 i did not, i contacted Castlecomer on facebook, and after a while o got a response. Apparently when they got a contract, they had to remove everything theyd done before and rerecord new versions for them to be official. very sad.
