Johnsong
Castlecomer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My lovely mother, my only brother, oh how you comfort me,
The evening's coming, and my heart is running, so much faster than my feet,
I've waited so long, this feeling's still strong too,
You walk towards me, as I walk towards you,

We're tango groovin', it feels so soothing, to dance the old 3, 4,
You smell so tasty, am I too hasty, as I'm calling out for more,
Oh no no no now, please go go go please go!
This dancing fever, is taking overload.

Hey ahh, hey ahh, oombadia, oombadia,
Hey ahh, hey ahh, oombadia, oombadia,
Hey ahh, hey ahh, oombadia, oombadia,

We got them jivin', we're dance floor thrivin', the rhythm sets us free.
My lovely lady, she's tango crazy, and she loves to dance with me!

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Castlecomer's song Johnsong refer to the comfort found in family. The first two lines form a prelude for what is about to happen, an intense emotional moment characterized by the singer's racing heart. The reunion is a long-awaited one, and the emotions it triggers are intense, given that the singer has waited for endurance. The subsequent line - "You walk towards me, as I walk towards you" - expresses a sense of intimacy, shared between two people who know and understand each other well. The lines that follow indicate that the two characters are dancing a Tango: "We're tango grooving, it feels so soothing, to dance the old 3, 4." It is during this moment that the singer's feelings peak as they're compelled to request more from the other in the dance.

The ever-dapper Jimmy sure got around. I assume this was after he left the office of mayor, as I know he was in Europe for an extended period of time after resigning the post. I love the formal dress he sported---top hat, cane, & swallowtail coat---a long-vanished era, never to return.
