Passion
Catharsis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some are born to wander blind
And some are born to endless night
But not this one! Feeling our youth go through our fingers
Like a razor to the bone Let's burn the dry brush of our hearts
And fill them with song once more
Deserts without mirages
Generations without rain
Let's shoot like rockets through the sky And leave this world in flames

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Catharsis's song Passion appear to be a call to arms for those who are feeling lost or stuck in a rut. The first two lines - "Some are born to wander blind / And some are born to endless night" - suggest that some people are doomed to never find their way or to spend their lives in darkness. However, the singer declares that they are not one of these people. They acknowledge that time is slipping away from them, like a razor cutting through flesh, and they want to make the most of what little time they have left. The solution, as the next line suggests, is to burn away the dry brush of their hearts and fill them with song once more. This could be interpreted as a call to rediscover their passion and drive, to let go of anything that is holding them back and to embrace their true desires.

The final two lines of the song take this message further, urging the listener to shoot like rockets through the sky and leave the world in flames. This is a bold and powerful image, suggesting that anything is possible if we are willing to take risks and be true to ourselves. It also hints at a sense of rebellion, as if the singer is calling for a revolution of sorts - perhaps against the status quo or against personal limitations. Overall, Passion is an inspiring and motivating song that encourages listeners to embrace their passions and live with purpose.

I was 16 when I first heard this album and it absolutely resonated with me like nothing else. I drew a picture of the singer i found on the computer (lol) and sent it into the label as fan art. A month later I got a really nice letter back from him with a Catharsis T shirt and a bunch of CrimethInc stickers. It made my day, week, month... so awesome. To this day I have the shirt and wear it all the time.

hey, a little weird of a request but if you have any old tees you liked to sell, please let me know!!!

@johnerdmann5099

@Jackson Yourpe It's not a weird request, but I don't think I'd ever part with it. I definitely understand tho... it's hard to find some of those old shirts! This one I haven't ever seen online or any other pics of it other than mine. It's a print of an old building on fire and has the "Let's burn like rockets through the sky, and leave this world in flames." lyric on it. It was right around when the album actually came out so I don't know if it was a tour leftover or they just didn't make many of them

Hope you know about Die Young from TX. They're the only band I can think of that sounds similar to Catharsis, and is clearly influenced by them, along with bands like Earth Crisis and maybe Terror. But any supporter of Catharsis would probably appreciate Die Young. The drummer from Catharsis used to crash at my house when he toured with Walls of Jericho. Good times!

Brian is awesome! My friend Stef I grew up with was the guitarist from the “passion” tour on, and they came and stayed at my house in CT, and Brian taught me how to blow fire! LOL... Fantastic peeps!

To experience this band live was an emotional experience that is indescribable. Between this and Samsara, they have to rank in the top of two of my favorite albums of all time.

I saw them last weekend at ieperfest. What a show!

@blackantlers

Played a gig with these guys at a fest around the time of this release, was meant to go on before them but they needed to get away early to catch a ferry, so we gave them our slot and we followed. Needless to say we sounded totally weak compared to this, they were so tight live, and this is such a great album, more akin to metal / hardcore than crust in my opinion. Great listening to this - they deserve more recognition!
