Mahler
Catherine Ringer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

C'est ton visage
Et puis tes mains
Et puis ton torse
Sur le miens

Doucement
Dans mon dos
Tu viens
Et tu me tiens

Tu me calmes
A trop de pleurs de larmes
Et je te sens serein
Quand je sèche mes mains

Ta chère a disparu
Bien que mon âme l'ait retenue
Bien que mon âme ait ton parfum
Et tu me tiens

Si tu n'étais pas mort
Je serais avec toi
On marcherait dehors
Et puis on rentrerait

Si tu étais vivant
On serait bien ensemble
On irait de l'avant
C'est beau comme on s'aimerait

Au fond de moi
Oui, c'est bien toi
Encore toi
Qui me fait rire

Là ! Ton regard
Est dans mes yeux

Oui c'est ta flamme
Et je suis deux

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Catherine Ringer's song Mahler describe a tender and intimate moment between two people. The song begins with the description of the person's face, hands, and torso on the singer's body. The lines "doucement dans mon dos, tu viens et tu me tiens" (softly in my back, you come and hold me) set the mood of a gentle and soothing embrace. The singer feels calm and reassured by this person who helps her dry her tears and feels serene in his embrace.

However, the lyrics take a bittersweet turn when the singer admits that this person reminds her of someone who has passed away - "ta chère a disparu" (your dear one has disappeared). Despite this, she feels the person's comforting presence and the scent of the one who has passed away. The lyrics then transition into a wistful and regretful tone with the lines "si tu n'étais pas mort, je serais avec toi" (if you were not dead, I would be with you). She imagines what it would be like if they were able to be together and move forward in their relationship. The last lines of the song describe the singer feeling like she is both herself and the person she is thinking of.

Overall, the song Mahler captures the emotions of longing, comfort, and loss in a delicate and poetic way. The lyrics convey the intimacy between two people and the sense of wanting something that can never be fully realized.
