A little girl lost in a storm
You're a folk tale,
The unexplainable
You're a bedtime story
The one who keeps the curtains closed
I hope you're waiting for me
I can't make it on my own
It's too dark to see the landmarks
And I don't want your goodluck charms
I hope you're waiting for me
Across your carpet of stars
You're the night Lila
You're everything we can't see
Lila
You're the possibility
You're a bedtime story
The one who keeps the curtains closed
I hope you're waiting for me
'Cause I can't make it on my own
I can't make it on my own
Unknown in an unlit world of old
You're the song I never heard before
Off the map where the wild things grow
Another world outside my door
And here I stand all alone
And driving down a pitch black road
I can't make it
On my own
You're a bedtime story
The one who keeps the curtains closed
I hope you're waiting for me
Cause I can't make it on my own
I can't make it on my own
The Night by Catie Curtis is a song about feeling lost and searching for guidance. In the song, "Lila" represents an elusive, mysterious figure who is both comforting and daunting. Lila is compared to the night - both dark and full of unknowns. She is also described as a bedtime story, a familiar and comforting tale that keeps the curtains closed and shields the listener from the outside world.
The singer of the song expresses a need for Lila, as they feel lost and unable to navigate on their own. They reject the idea of relying on good luck charms, instead hoping that Lila is waiting for them across her "carpet of stars." Lila is not only a source of comfort but also represents the possibility of something greater or different.
The lyrics suggest a longing for a connection with something beyond the mundane, and Lila is seen as the way to access that otherworldly realm. The song ends with the singer still feeling alone and driving down a dark road, unable to make it on their own. Lila remains a sort of beacon, an elusive yet powerful presence that guides the way.
