Turner had previously auditioned for several reality singing shows, beginning at 11 years old with America's Got Talent. She then auditioned for The Voice twice and auditioned unsuccessfully for the fifteenth season of American Idol. After trying again in 2017, she finally received a golden ticket to Hollywood. In an audition held in New York, she sang her original song "21st Century Machine." Her segment on American Idol was the first shown during the sixteenth season's premiere on March 11, 2018.
After getting through Hollywood Week, she made it to the Showcase Round where she sang "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga. In the Top 24, she sang "Call Me" by Blondie and "Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)" with Andy Grammer. After advancing to the Top 14, she sang "Take Me to Church" by Hozier and immediately advanced to the next round. In the Top 10, she sang "Once Upon a Dream" from the movie Sleeping Beauty.
She advanced to the Top 7, where she was one of two contestants to be eliminated from American Idol. After singing "Oops!... I Did It Again" by Britney Spears, Turner forgot some of the words to "Manic Monday" by The Bangles, a flub noticed by the judges. After her elimination, Turner commented that if she had been voted into the next episode, she would have given up her spot to another contestant. Clay Aiken, who finished second place on the second season of American Idol, called the show a "Vacation Bible School talent show" for the judges' response to the blunder.
During the finale of season 16, she reprised her original "21st Century Machine" and sang "Part of Me" as a duet with Katy Perry. Turner was among the performers starring in American Idol Live! 2018, a 48-city tour that ran from July 11 through September 16, 2018.
She has performed solo in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre and Hotel Cafe and performed in the spring of 2019 as an opening act for singer Justin Jesso in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, followed by an opening spot for Meghan Trainor in Atlantic City.
On March 1, 2019, Turner released "Prom Queen". Raisa Bruner of Time described the song as displaying "aching, existential honesty", with Turner's voice suggesting "wisdom beyond her years". On June 7, 2019, she released "Savior," her lead single for her debut EP, The Sad Vegan, which released June 14. In the summer of 2019, she headlined The Sad Vegan Tour.
On September 24, 2019, her live and acoustic version of "Prom Queen" was used in its entirety as the trailer for Shane Dawson's 2019 YouTube series The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star. The video was #1 trending on YouTube, receiving more than 11 million views in one week. The series has also featured several songs from her EP, The Sad Vegan, including "Breathe," "Home," and "Party!"
On May 17, 2019, Turner, partnering with Postmodern Jukebox, made a vintage strings cover of Billie Eilish's song "idontwannabeyouanymore." The cover has over 1.4 million views on YouTube as of December 2021.
In 2019, Turner graduated from Neshaminy High School.

Rewinding my mistakes
Could do it all again but better
Cold nights I lie awake
And watch you slip away
Then crawl into your favourite sweater
If I could just play pretend
You think you would miss me then? Oh
'Cause I'm at a loss for words
Lower me down into the earth
See if you cry when I hit the dirt
I wanna play hide and seek
I wanna see how far you'd go to find me
Baby, you feel so weak and this love is one-sided
If you don't wanna stay, don't stay for me
We take it day by day
We're numb now to the pain
The love we used to have is weathered
Just need another wave of hope to hit my veins
Keep holding onto buried treasure
If I could just go to sleep
Live in a lucid dream
Away from reality, oh
We would be back at the start
Treat me like I'm a work of art
Keeping me safe when I fall apart
Oh, I wanna play hide and seek
I wanna see how far you'd go to find me
Baby, you feel so weak and this love is one-sided
If you don't wanna stay, don't stay for me
I wanna play hide and seek
I wanna see how far you'd go to find me
Baby, you feel so weak and this love is one-sided
If you don't wanna stay, don't stay for me
Can we play a little game?
Come and find me, oh
Come and find me
Can we play just a little game?
Come and find me, oh
Come and find me
Hide and seek (don't stay, don't stay)
I wanna see how far you'd go to find me (don't stay, don't stay)
Baby, you feel so weak (don't stay, don't stay)
And this love is one-sided
If you don't wanna stay, don't stay for me (don't stay, don't stay)
Oh-oh (don't stay, don't stay, ooh don't stay, don't stay)
If I hide, will you find me?
If I hide, will you find me?
In Catie Turner's song Hide and Seek, the lyrics explore the emotions of a person who is struggling in a one-sided relationship. The first verse begins with the singer's mind acting like a video tape, rewinding their mistakes and wishing they could do better. They lie awake at night, watching their partner slip away and holding onto their favorite sweater.
The second verse continues with the idea of the singer "playing pretend" and disappearing to see if their partner would miss them. This feeling of being lost and not knowing what to say or do is expressed in the line "lower me down into the earth, see if you cry when I hit the dirt". The chorus repeats with the singer wanting to play hide and seek to see how far their partner would go to find them, but also acknowledging that the love is one-sided and they shouldn't stay if they don't want to.
The bridge introduces a sense of numbness and resignation in the relationship, where they are just going through the motions and holding onto the hope that things will get better. The final chorus repeats the desire to play a game of hide and seek, hoping their partner will find them, but also recognizing the potential for them to leave.
Overall, the song captures the feeling of being in a difficult and one-sided relationship, where the singer wants to be seen and valued by their partner, but also recognizes their worth and is willing to let go if necessary.

Will never understand how Catie isn’t a MASSIVE artist yet. Everyone is so late to the party.

She will be and honestly being mainstream isn’t all that matters. Reaching the right people is more important. She’s made a dent in the world with her music already and it’s better for it.

agreed!!!!

Its because she “isn’t a cog in the 21st century machine” 😉 because she produces real content (her art, her lyrics) her music will be timeless...i think of how we use to ask the same thing about “Florence and The Machine” when i was young...i say this because both artists have albums that can relate to me tomorrow just as powerfully as it did years past. I respect Catie Turner for this very reason!
