Following the brothers' falling out, Max Cavalera had formed a new band, Soulfly, and Igor had recorded four studio albums with Sepultura before leaving the band in January 2006. In July 2006, Max received an unexpected call from his brother, and by the end of the conversation, Max had invited Igor to visit him in Phoenix, Arizona, to perform in a Soulfly show. Igor joined Soulfly in concert and performed two Sepultura songs. After the show, Max suggested they begin a new project, and Igor accepted. To complete the band, Max chose Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and Joe Duplantier (Gojira) as the bass guitarist. The group then recorded their debut album at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles with engineer and co-producer Logan Mader in July 2007. Named after the band's original moniker, Inflikted was released through Roadrunner Records on March 25, 2008. Cavalera Conspiracy has released three more albums since then: Blunt Force Trauma (2011), Pandemonium (2014) and Psychosis (2017).

I'll be the soul without fear
I'll be the tower of strength
I'll be the last breath of fate
I'll be the grain of sand
I'll be the soul untamed
I'll be the seeds of your soul
I'll be the sacred lost scrolls
Impaled heads and tortured souls
Under the sign of the black ark
Sacrifice the bastard's sons
Under the sign of the black ark
Whoever the fuck you are
Under the sign of the black ark
Wherever the fuck you come from
Under the sign of the black ark
Here's this new day
When we'll stand up
Fight for our lives
We must go on
Learn from our past
We can forgive
What you have done
We must go on
We're not who you think we are
Under the sign of the black void
Whatever you are, we are against it
Between the sun and the dust
The spirits I call, they come to life now
Feels like the march of doom
Taking me down where our lives end
Like born dead inside the womb
Here's this new day
When we'll stand up
Fight for our lives
We must go on
Learn from our past
We can forgive
What you have done
We must go on
Inside the womb?
You're not who you think you are
Womb?
Hostility?
Between the sun and the dust
Feels like the march of doom
The lyrics of "Black Ark" by Cavalera Conspiracy are a powerful statement of defiance and strength in the face of adversity. The song appears to address both personal struggles as well as social and political issues. The opening lines "I'll be the end and the beginning, I'll be the soul without fear" suggest a determination to face any challenge with courage and resilience. The repeated refrain "Under the sign of the black ark" evokes a sense of belonging to a group or community that is united in its opposition to oppression and injustice.
The reference to "impaled heads and tortured souls" and "sacrifice the bastard's sons" suggests a history of violence and trauma that may be linked to a legacy of colonialism or slavery. The final lines "the spirits I call, they come to life now, feels like the march of doom, taking me down where our lives end, like born dead inside the womb" speak of a sense of fatalism and resignation in the face of ongoing struggle.
