Movin' on
Ce Ce Peniston Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

CHORUS:
Why'd you think that I
Would sit here and wait in vain
Baby I'm movin' on
'Cause what I want from love
Is the pleasure and not the pain
Baby I'm movin' on

Didn't i hear you say
That your love would never change
But I know that it's over
But when the story ends
Why should we both pretend
When we know there's another

BRIDGE:
Tell me how, tell me who
Just tell me the truth
Tell me why did you lie
I can see it in your eyes

Tell me where, tell me when
Cause it never should have been at all
But it looks like it's over

CHORUS

I remember when
When I was there for you
Where were you last winter?
Cause the thoughts run through my mind
Of all the times you lied
And that's why it's over

BRIDGE

How could you do this to me
Cause now I gotta leave
Why did you tell me those lies
And now I gotta say bye bye
Bye bye, baby yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Movin' On" by Ce Ce Peniston is about a woman who has decided to leave her partner because he has not been truthful in their relationship. The chorus states that the woman is moving on from the relationship because all she wants from love is pleasure and not pain. She is not going to wait in vain for him because he has broken her trust. The verse talks about how the man had promised her that his love would never change but in reality, their love has ended. The woman acknowledges that there is another person in his life, which is why she has to leave.

The bridge section of the song is a plea from the woman for the truth. She wants to know who, what, when, where, and why the man has lied to her. She can see it in his eyes that he has not been loyal. The woman cannot continue to pretend that everything is fine when in reality their relationship should not have existed in the first place.

The second verse mentions that the woman was always there for the man, but he was not there for her in the winter. She constantly thinks about all the lies he has told her and that's why she has to end the relationship. The bridge repeats, emphasizing how much the woman wants the truth. The song concludes with the woman saying goodbye as she leaves the man.

The Power's that Were, wouldn't let it be. radio stations and promoters were paid off to keep CeCe Peniston and Others off of the radio and out of the spotlight.
Now look what's happening to them presently, present day what goes around comes around

@michaelnobles2643

I heard this on an old school r&b station in Louisiana. I was surprised I had never heard this one before and I love Cece. This is my jam! Someone definitely slept on this song, this wouldโ€™ve been a hit

@busybee2033
