Somebody Else's Guy
Ce Ce Peniston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I can't let you go
You are the one who
You are the one who makes me feel
So real, yeah
What am I supposed to do, baby?
What am I supposed to do, baby?
When I'm so hooked up on you
Then I realize, oh I realize
That you are somebody else's guy?
Do you remember the times we shared together
Sharing our days in the sun
Then I found out that you were somebody else's lover
After all the plays we made, now I'm shattered 'cause...
CHORUS:
I can't get off my high horse and I can't let go
You are the one who makes me feel so real
Oooh, what am I supposed to do when I'm hooked on you
Then I realize that you're somebody else's guy?
That day in September I knew you would remember
That's when all the stuff hit the fan
You told me a lie, and you didn't have an alibi
But baby yeah I still care
Oh I felt sorry that I can't let you go, no, no
You are the one who makes me feel so real
Oooh what am I supposed to do when I'm hooked on you
Then I realize that you're somebody else's guy
I didn't realize you were on my mind
Oh, you're on my mind
Hey I felt sorry that I can't let you go, no, no
You are the one who makes me feel so real
Oooh what am I supposed to do when I'm hooked on you
Then I realize that you're somebody else's
Somebody else's, somebody else's guy
Yes you are
You are the one who makes me feel so real
You were wrong all along
The things that you did to me
I didn't realize that you were on mind
I just can't let you go
You made me strong
You were wrong all along
Somebody else's, somebody else's
Somebody else's guy
You were on my mind
Oh you make me feel oh so real, oh so real
In Ce Ce Peniston's "Somebody Else's Guy," the singer of the song is struggling to let go of a man who she has intense feelings for, but who is not available to her because he is already in a relationship. She alludes to the fact that they have a shared history together, and that their relationship was once happy and fulfilling. However, after discovering that he was seeing someone else, the singer feels shattered and can't seem to get over him. She is torn between her intense feelings for him and the reality that he belongs to someone else, leaving her with a sense of helplessness and frustration.
The song's lyrics capture the pain and turmoil of unrequited love, where the singer is grappling with the difficult decision of whether to continue her pursuit of someone who is already taken, or to walk away and try to move on. Peniston's soulful delivery of the lyrics lends the song an emotional depth that speaks to many people who have experienced unrequited love or a difficult romantic situation.
