If honesty is what you want .honesty is what you get with CELEBRITY's latest release MINING FOR TWILIGHT (Doghouse Records). Celebrity's story began in 2001 when Lance Black and brothers, Jesse and Matt Fine teamed up with producer Mark Nash to record SLEEP (One Day Savior Recordings). The release of SLEEP turned the heads of several major labels, many of whom offered a few free drinks and plenty of hot air. After unseen promises, Celebrity teamed up with new guitar player Ryan Parrish (ex-Hopesfall) and signed a deal with the indie label Doghouse Records (All American Rejects / The Get Up Kids / Limbeck). In 2003, Doghouse released LOVESICK which, despite receiving great press, struggled to find the right audience. After endless touring, Celebrity came off the road tired and beaten up.
In late 2004, the band began writing songs for MINING FOR TWILIGHT. There were plenty of things to write about. Not only was the road grueling, but front man Lance Black's personal life was rocky as well. During the recording of SLEEP (2001), Black received news that his six-month old son was in need of a heart transplant. After many sleepless and worried nights, prayers were answered and the heart transplant was performed. With a new heart and a new smile, Black's son was home. As years passed, doctors discovered the medicine saving him was also giving him cancer. Black's son went on to win his bout with cancer, but during this struggle, the situation at home suffered. Songs of losing love and finding one's self during the process, naturally, came to the surface.
"I realized in that empty space. Something died that I can't replace. I realized there was nothing left for you." Through his lyrics, Black paints a brutally honest picture of his life during these difficult times. The music itself is equally honest, having been recorded live in the studio. MFT launches you into space, and leaves you floating to ponder the meaning of life's trials. In the end, MFT leaves the listener with hope that contentment can be found in any circumstance.
MINING FOR TWILIGHT contains a bonus DVD, with four videos (three of which the band made themselves, highlighting the band's DIY mentality) and an interview with the band. Check out Celebrity's MINING FOR TWILIGHT, in stores April 18, 2006.

Disconnected
Celebrity Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics in Celebrity's song Disconnected explore a complicated relationship and the struggles that come with it. The opening line, "you swing like a girl, but you could always bring me down" suggests that the person being addressed is not physically strong but has power over the singer nonetheless. The next line, "you'd swallow the world if you could shove us in your mouth" implies a level of narcissism or a desire for control over others. Despite this, the singer is willing to give the other person what they need, asking if they would do the same in return.
The chorus repeats the idea that both parties in the relationship are disconnected from each other, suggesting a lack of understanding and communication. The line "maybe it was easy, but so were you" could be interpreted in a number of ways - perhaps the relationship was easy but ultimately unfulfilling, or maybe the person being addressed was easy to manipulate. The final verse sees the singer attempting to make amends for leaving the other person, asking for forgiveness, but ultimately realizing that they are better off apart.
Overall, the lyrics in Disconnected paint a picture of a relationship that is fraught with tension and ultimately unsustainable.
