It's first 'official' mashup was let the voodoo use you (Jan 2007). He had created several unofficial ones that weren't released, including a mix for Rebuffer FM (Dec 2001). The name's taken from the London club night, Jez founded with school friends, in 2003. The club went from strength-to-strength, celebrating it's fifth year in 2008.

CMP has also released collaborations with Copycat, DJ Useo & Guv'nor.

My uncle was actually one of those people who died after singing that song in a karaoke booth. I live in the Cordillera Region in the Philippines and it was my brother's birthday when it happened but it wasn't something violent like being beaten up to death or being shot but, it was still a shock to everyone. Basically, my uncle typed in the code for the song My Way and started singing it. Right in the middle of the song, he started doing these vomit sounds and everyone thought he was just drunk af because of the amount of liquor he consumed. Everyone didn't care much since drunk people do it all the time however when my uncle collapsed and was suddenly breathing heavily on the floor, everyone panicked and his wife was already beside him crying. Sadly when he was rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival due to cardiac arrest. Although he was already diagnosed with several diseases beforehand due to his unhealthy addiction to cigarettes and alcohol, it was still scary as it coincidentally happened when he was singing My Way so of course people will start talking. Everyone thought that it was because of the song so my dad who owned the karaoke booth blocked the song and the number code using a pentlepen so no one would ever sing the song. I was 8 at the time and it scared the shit out of me to this day. Rest in peace uncle..

The actually reason behind these killings is because "My way" is so popular here in Philippines that its always played in the kareoke party etc. so people often fight their way who's gonna sing it first and that triggers the violence towards them since they want to sing it first.

My father's explanation about this killings is that My Way is such a very easy song to sing and belt out, you can adjust the phrasing/ tempo of the letters to your liking, even word selections are easy to pronounce for an average Filipino (security guards, factory workers, farmers, construction workers, etc.), everyone wants to sing it. More than one guest (most probably from boomer generation) would select that song and then there will be confusion on whose turn it is. Add alcohol to that already burning flame, you know what happens next.

I already know about the "my way killings" and it is pretty interesting how something simple as a song can trigger a belief or a legend of a curse or something. Though I don't really believe it is actually a curse, it's that some people are very sensitive about singing and they don't want to hear notes lower or higher than the actual tone.

I remember my aunts warning my uncles not to sing it during family gatherings. I wasn't expecting the video to cover that far back. But from what I understood by asking people around me, it was a famous song and people wanted to sing it. It's not usually played until the middle or last part of a drinking session where everyone's most definitely drunk. Just a bunch of tired, stressed people in one place. You do something annoying without listening to warnings and you'll find yourself in trouble.

Back in highschool we did an immersion at the Medium Security compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Merro Manila Philippines. I remembered that the jail warden oriented us that if inmates would ask us to join in leisure activities such as the Karaoke take note that the song "My Way" is banned as some of the inmates in said compound where incarcerated in connection the My Way killings, they get triggered by that song. Good thing I stayed away from the Karaoke and joined the inmates doing Arts and crafts.

I think this story can teach us a lot. She taught us why there was a focus on this specific song's "curse", but I think it also touches on other media lessons as well. We have heard of other songs, movies, and art pieces being supposedly cursed.. Mysteries & Murders are " explained" daily to be caused from different conspiracies or paranormal happenings. This is often because one minor detail is being focused on to make it look possible and the full details are never told.

I'm glad someone finally shone a light to the time when the USA "lifted" and "taught" Filipinos "civilization."
Also, a lot of the My Way killings are mostly urban legends turned into superstition. I know some friends and lolos/lolas/uncles/aunties who won't play or sing the song on karaoke events because they believe it'll bring bad luck (in which the worst outcome is death). In my city, it's a dying legend, so most of the people I go to the karaoke with are neutral to the song. They'll sing it if they fancy it at the time or simply choose another song.
The actual murder cases seem to be highly coincidental. But since nobody has any hard data on them, it's hard to say for sure.

My personal theory about this phenomenon is it's simply a big coincidence. With the song being a Karaoke staple + drunken gatherings being a common setting for senseless violence, it's not much of a surprise why My Way has somewhat become the "theme song" for drunken violence that ends in death. It's pretty much just an "urban myth" generally perpetuated by us locals. I honestly wasn't even aware that Western media has its own hot take on it but that was interesting to know. 👍

I wasnt familiar of this urban legend before I saw the teaser. I asked my parents about this and they laughed and jokingly said It was just because this song is notoriously sung by the almost black out drunk (titos/uncles) at parties. And almost everytime, another (drunk) person insist they're not singing the song ~right~ and starts grabbing the mic/starts a fight. Which honestly is almost every inuman (drinking party) here in the Philippines. I did say Titos/Uncles because this song is their "era" so the "curse"'s victims are mostly at that age.

I love this POV. I think it's a case of a myth making itself real. The first My Way "killings" were just sensational enough for others to follow in the footsteps of the first few ones, until such time that it stops being coincidental, and people start accepting that if you sing My Way, you will be killed (which has stopped many from singing, especially while inebriated). They see the song and don't see the people anymore.

The main reason here, is that Frank Sinatra sang it perfectly, and loved by the locals. Filipinos try to sing it, but most of the time flanked with it, that's why some fanatics don't appreciate that much, so ending up killing the failed singer, with the influence of alcohol, that usually happened in bars. 👍

There was a time that 'My Way' was the most favorite song in the singing contest.
Most of the good singer contestant sang that song and since its singing contest they hit the notes pleasing to the ears.
And most Filipinos used to hear that pleasantly.
When they hear My Way sang in the videoke and not pleasing to hear the singer's voice they are easily irritated because they feel that its not for them to sing that kind of song.
And some were not just irritated they were became angry when you sing that song and not hitting the right notes especially in drinking sessions ,,,,,,,, that's why killing happened....

My Aunt was almost punched in the face for stealing this song from one of her co-workers. They were all drunk and they didn't know who was gonna sing this song so my Aunt volunteered. The guy who should sing was actually in the bathroom and was so pissed. They stopped the karaoke and all went home after that.

But being able to learn more about the American colonisation of the Philippines was fascinating, especially how it started. Lots of people here have no clue what’s going on in the Philippines. As an expat living in the Philippines, I’d heard my share of loud, obnoxious, off key, off timing, sh*ty voice benching out crappy stereo system past 10pm to early morning, and the cops here take their sweet time hours later to break up the party so we can go back to sleep! Typically happened once every 2 weeks! Why you asked? The Philippines has Barangay fiesta, birthdays, crap load of national holidays, contests, etc constantly. So bad that even the provincial government has to impose quiet time from 10pm to 6am weekdays, and 12pm to 6am weekend. New proposal targeting impose a fine of 1,000 pesos (roughly $19) or up to six months in prison for violations. Before the government stepping in, there are times people got so piss off that murder is not out of normal realm!

My way was already one of the most popular songs in the Philippines to sing in karaoke to begin with. Considering how frequent Filipinos partake in karaoke, being a night life staple, the climactic and conclusive theme of the song, paired with the gun violence present in the country doubling that of the United States, and the media perpetuating the narrative that it is a cursed song; it most likely is just a case of conflating different common occurrences in Filipino culture.

It has been engrossed in my mind that this song is just eerily scary and that it is absolutely a curse, 'cause I have watched and heard a lot of news and stories about this "My Way Killings" since I was still a kid...well, I get chills whenever I see that title in the song book. Definitely terrifying! It's really aghast.

I legitimately thought the "My Way Killings" were just an urban legend until I came across the criminal case of Palaganas vs. People of the Philippines (G.R. No. 165483, September 12, 2006). It was quite a bizarre thing to discover.

I was going to sing this song during a karaoke night in tondo where we use to live, and my father who was usually calm and reserved got super mad and turned it off. He told me that when he was a child, his father use to bring him to drinking parties in the streets of tondo and someone sang that song and a shoot out happened. fortunately both of them were just about to leave when the shooting began.

What made me find out about this was i was looking at old reddit posts about what oeople thought what happened to Mike (the mouse that was getting chased by the gang bears) snd one of them mentioned the "my way" killings

My way is the song of every Filipino uncle. However, an Aegis song is always a unifying song.

The reason why "My Way" has the title for having cases of murder and death is that the song is very easy to sing and most of the words that consists in the song are very easy to pronounce and understand with this when people who sang the song got a very high rating in points in the karaoke machine which whoever does will make the people be envious of them to the point of blind rage taken over them adding to the situation more worse after consuming alcohol.

I think its about the tone. The tone is soooo high and it may did something to the brain. This is just my opinion and I don't mind correcting me. Alcohol+ High tones may lead to serious problems. Cardiac arrest can happend.

Funnily enough, the song featured at the end, Stupid Love, was a very popular local Filipino song containing some English lyrics in the chorus. But I remember there was a news coverage back in the 2000s about locals recording their cover rendition of Stupid Love and when they play it back, they hear what sound like demons in the background. hahaha.
