In 1950, Cruz made her first major breakthrough, after the lead singer of the La Sonora Matancera, a renowned Cuban orchestra, left the group and Cruz was called to fill in. Cruz was hired permanently by the orchestra, but she wasn't well accepted by the public at first. However, the orchestra stood by their decision, and soon Cruz became famous throughout Cuba. During the 15 years she was a member, the band traveled all over Latin America.
Yo Vivire
Celia Cruz Lyrics

Cualquier herida, cualquier tiempo, cualquier soledad
Y ahora vuelvo a recordar, aquel tiempo atrás
(Sobreviviendo)
En esta vida lo que estoy haciendo
(Sobreviviendo)
Estoy sobreviviendo, estoy sobreviviendo
(Sobreviviendo)
Para que la gente me siga oyendo
(Rompiendo barreras, voy sobreviviendo)
(Cruzando fronteras, voy sobreviviendo)
Doy gracias a Dios por este regalo
El me dió la voz y yo te la he dado, con gusto
(Rompiendo barreras, voy sobreviviendo)
(Cruzando fronteras, voy sobreviviendo)
Para ti mi gente siempre cantaré
Te daré mi azucar caramba y sobreviviré
(Rompiendo barreras, voy sobreviviendo)
(Cruzando fronteras, voy sobreviviendo)
Yo viviré, yo viviré, yo viviré y sobreviviré
The lyrics to Celia Cruz's song "Yo Viviré" speak to the power of her voice and the impact it can have on others. Cruz sings about how her voice can overcome any hurt, any time, and any loneliness. It takes the shape of a song and comes from her heart. Cruz believes that her voice will fly on its own and touch those who need to hear it the most. It will reflect the love she has experienced in her life and the music will be a reminder of all she has felt. The song is a celebration of life, and Cruz promises to live on always.
In the second verse, Cruz reminisces about her journey to finding freedom and leaving behind friends and tears. She promises to live on for those she has left behind and will continue to sing her song and dance to it passionately even as she crosses borders and breaks barriers. She thanks God for the gift of her voice and the opportunity to share it with others. She promises to continue singing for her people and to give them her "azúcar," her sweet energy.
Overall, "Yo Viviré" is an empowering and uplifting song that speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of music to connect people across borders, cultures, and generations. It is a song about living, loving, and never giving up.
