Think Twice
Celine Dion & Barbra Streisand Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't think I can't feel that there's something wrong
You've been the sweetest part of my life so long
I look in your eyes, there's a distant light
And you and I know there'll be a storm tonight

This is getting serious
Are you thinking 'bout you or us?
Don't say what you're about to say
Look back before you leave my life
Be sure before you close that door
Before you roll those dice
Baby, think twice

Baby, think twice for the sake of our love, for the memory
For the fire and the faith that was you and me
Baby, I know it ain't easy when your soul cries out for a higher ground
'Cause when you're halfway up, you're always halfway down

But, baby, this is serious
Are you thinking 'bout you or us?

Don't say what you're about to say
Look back before you leave my life
Be sure before you close that door
Before you roll those dice
Baby, think twice

Baby, this is serious (This is serious)
Are you thinking 'bout you or us?
No, no!

(Don't say what you're about to say) No, no, no, no!
Look back before you leave my life (Don't leave my life!)
Be sure before you close that door
Before you roll those dice
Baby, think twice!

(Don't do what you're about to do
My everything depends on you) I depend on you
Whatever it takes, I'll sacrifice
Before you roll (Those dice) Don't do it, baby, no, don't do it, baby!

(Don't say what you're about to say
Look back before you leave my life) Don't leave my life!
Be sure before you close that door

Before you roll those dice
Baby, think twice

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Celine Dion & Barbra Streisand's song "Think Twice" are about an impending storm in a relationship. The singer can feel that something is wrong and notices a distant light in their partner's eyes. They urge their partner to think twice before making any rash decisions that could lead to the end of their relationship. The singer acknowledges that it may not be easy to stay the course, but they ask their partner to consider the memory of their love, the fire and faith that was once between them, and the sacrifices they have made for each other. The lyrics are a plea for communication, thoughtfulness, and reflection in a pivotal moment.

Celine Dion is a fabulous singer (she was 29 years old when this song was first recorded in 1997), but Barbra is immortal. The richness in Barbra's voice is unmatched by any female singer in the last 100 years at least. And she was already past her prime here at 55; nearly TWICE Celine's age. Simply astounding.
