Frozen
Celldweller (2003) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True life behind a wall
Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

I can see a frozen point in time
Where her figure still awaits
Tongue of fire tracing lips outline
Where frozen breath originates

With one motion of her waiting eyes
She strips everything away
This one moment is intensified
And colors all fade to grey

I am in the only place that i want to be
Though we know that it ends eventually
But it's alright because right now we're frozen

"I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make
It's better to be broken than to break"

Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True life behind a wall
Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

I can see a frozen point in time
That is easy to retrace
Light and darkness are both intertwined
The elements are in their place with

One motion of her wanting mind
The real world begins to fade
And all the hateful things I have become
Temporarily go away

Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True life behind a wall
Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

When my mind's frozen:

I'll take you anwhere you want to go
Far from anything that feels like home (lets go)
You are anyone I want to be (it's here and now, and now it's only you and me)

It's never enough (mmm that's true)
I want to stay here (yeah, and I do too)
Breakin' it down(takin' it down)
With smell(smell), touch(touch, taste(taste), sight(sight), and sound(sound)

How long will I be here without you near because I'm so cold
Break them first or I'll get broken is not what I was told, now I'm so cold
I'm so cold
So cold

Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True life behind a wall
Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True life behind a wall

Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

Overall Meaning

The song "Frozen" by Celldweller explores the idea of living within a fantasy and how it can feel so real to an individual. The first verse describes the synthetic ecstasy that one can experience when indulging in their fantasy, which serves as a distraction from the outside world where both men and angels fall. The chorus talks about being caught in a moment of frozen time where the individual can see and experience everything they want to, and nothing else matters. It is as though everything has faded to grey, and there is only the fantasy and the person they share it with.

The second verse mentions how the fantasy helps the individual forget the mistakes they have made, and they prefer to be broken than to break. It again highlights that the fantasy is a place of refuge for the individual where they can escape the real world and find solace in their synthetic ecstasy. The bridge of the song describes how the fantasy becomes everything the individual wants, and they can be who they want to be. They are far away from everything that feels like home, and it is as though there is only you and the person you share your fantasy with.

Overall, the song "Frozen" portrays the idea of living within a fantasy world that is so real to an individual that they can feel synthetic ecstasy. It shows that every individual has different ways of escaping the real world, and although temporary, they serve as a refuge for people from their mistakes and the harsh realities of life.

I feel like people overlook the meaning of this song and only see it as "that funny sex song". Like if you look closely (okay probably not too close the lyrics are right there) it's actually kinda sad. It's about an addiction. Not just to sex, but to the fantasy of being with someone. I like to think of this as a great companion piece to "welcome to the end" (and yes I put an overly long analysis on that video too...). This song is almost like the excitement of a new fantasy. Of escaping the lonely "cold" life outside and pretending to be someone else, and be with someone else.

Towards the end the narrator seems to realize how fucked up it all is,
"how long will I be here without you here because I am so cold! "Break them first or I'll get broken" is not what I was told
Now I'm so cold"
I think this shows it's about a breakup. But the singer initiated it. He broke up with her because he thought she would break up with him first. But now he's lonely because of it. thus, the fantasy.

Isolation is another theme that shows up in a lot of these songs, I'd even argue that isolation is the main theme of the whole album.
"better to be broken than to break."
or, better to isolate yourself from others than to continually get hurt by them.

The funny sex song is Heart On, not this.
