Life In The Old Dog Yet
Celtic Thunder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In my time, I've been a few places
And I've many a story to tell
Here I am, still as strong
As I've been all along
I'm not ready for heaven or hell

There are people who do need reminding
That I'm still the boss around here
I still call every shot
And I'll tell you what's what and what's not
Do I make myself clear?

I'm not ready to roll over
I'm still the daddy of them all
I'm still the top banana
They still answer when I call

I'm older, yes, but I'm wiser
And they better not forget
I'm not ready to roll over
'Cause there's life in the old dog yet

You can put an old head on young shoulders
My advice is the best I can give
Let them make their mistakes
Let them fight for their breaks
Let them learn how to love and to live

I've only got the one daughter
Time she married a man of her own
And the one I have planned
Has got plenty of land
She'll be grand, and I'll stand all alone

I'm not ready to roll over
I'm still the daddy of them all
I'm still the top banana
They still answer when I call

I'm older, yes, but I'm wiser
And they better not forget
I'm not ready to roll over
'Cause there's life in the old dog yet

I'm not ready to roll over
I'm still the daddy of them all
I'm still the top banana
They still answer when I call

I'm older, yes, but I'm wiser
And they better not forget
I'm not ready to roll over
'Cause there's life in the old dog yet

'Cause there's life in this old dog yet

George Donaldson is still the soul of Celtic Thunder. He shall never perish.

Oh, I miss George. He had such a gift of being a natural storyteller. Every song he sang, he brought it life & knew how to bring the audience right into it.

He was also my Mom's favorite Celtic Thunder member. I lost her June 18, 2021, so it makes me tear up even more now when I hear George. I can't help but think of the joy & excitement it would always bring her when she would hear him. We would play his CD on road trips & she would just be going ga-ga over him & every song (it was so cute).

We never missed a concert whenever Celtic Thunder came to Oregon. Now I won't have my "buddy" to go see them with next time they are in the area. It will just never be the same.

He was such a natural and gifted storyteller, always so in tuned to the character he is portraying in these performances. Watching his wonderful enthusiasm, one can't help but smile, which, if only for the moment, helps fill the void. ๐Ÿ’š
