Life With You
Celtic Thunder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was a younger man
When I was a silly boy
I didn't need a thing,
I was strong as anything,
I viewed solitude as a joy

But since I met you I'm distraught
You wandered in and now I'm caught
I never thought I would see
Someone so truly good
Some one who's so everything I'm not

I want to spend my life with you
Don't want to live all alone
I can't conceive of the years left in me
Without you in our home

But what if, what if, what if what
If it's not perfect then it's not
With every care I'll take
One thing I won't forsake
To dwell beside what you've got

Every time I think about you
I think I can't live without you
I'll tell you something
I am nothing without you

I want to spend my life with you
I don't want to live all alone
I can't conceive of the years left in me
Without you in our home

I want to spend my life with you
Don't want to live all alone
I can't conceive of the years left in me

Without you in our home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Celtic Thunder's "Life With You" convey the message of a man who, before meeting the love of his life, enjoyed being alone and self-sufficient. His perception of solitude changed drastically once he met his significant other. He expresses his fear of losing her and how much he values her presence. The lyrics paint a picture of a man who has found his soulmate and is willing to commit to a lifetime of love and companionship. His thoughts revolve around his partner, and he cannot imagine a life without her.

The lyrics contain imagery depicting the transformation the man has undergone since meeting his partner. He was once "strong as anything," but now he's "distraught" and "caught." His partner's presence has exposed his weaknesses and flaws, but he accepts them because he knows he is loved unconditionally. The song's central theme is the power of love and how it changes the way we view life. The man doesn't want to live alone because he needs his partner's companionship to navigate the years ahead.

I am 73 years old. Been thru the Beatles, FleetwoodMac, Jimmy Buffet, you name it! Never have I been addicted to anyone as I am to George Donaldson and the original group. I know that his soul is at rest and peace, but sometimes when I see a butterfly, a humming bird, even a dragonfly, I feel that his heart and soul are still all around us. I still pray for him and I know he is at rest.
