In 2007, Ní Mhaolchatha left the group to focus on her solo career and was replaced by Hilary. Sharpe initially joined the group to fill in for Kelly who was on maternity leave, and later became a full member as a replacement for Fallon (who left to spend more time with family and record a solo work).
Since then, both Alex Sharpe and Lynn Hilary have left, making way for Lisa Lambe.
In 2013, Lisa Kelly left to pursue a teaching career at a Voice Academy she started up that year with her husband, making way for Susan McFadden for the 2013 Believe Tour.
In 2013, Chloë Agnew left to pursue solo work, making way for Máiréad Carlin.
Celtic Woman was recorded on September 15, 2004 for PBS Television in The United States at The Helix, Dublin to a sell-out audience. The show was organized by show producer Sharone Browne and musical director and composer David Downes, and produced by Dave Kavanagh. The show was first broadcast in March 2005 in The United States and within weeks the album Celtic Woman reached number one in the World Music charts in America and on Amazon.com charts. Their huge success in Asia and in America has been credited to the already successful megastar Enya and has been called "Riverdance for the Voice". As of July 22, 2006 the group has broken a long standing record in the music business. Their CD has been at the #1 position on the Billboard charts for an amazing 68 weeks.
On October 19th of that year, Celtic Woman was knocked off its No.1 spot on Billboard's World Music Charts, which it had maintained for 82 weeks, by Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration. This put the groups' 2 CDs at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively. Since then, Lisa Lambe has left the group to pursue a solo career.
Hark The Herald Angels Sing
Celtic Woman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
"Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations rise;
Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic host proclaim
Hark! the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King"
Hail! the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King"
Joyful, all ye nations rise;
Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic host proclaim
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Hark! the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
The song "Hark! the herald angels sing" is a celebratory hymn that recounts the birth of Jesus Christ. The lyrics express the joyous news of the arrival of the "newborn king" and the subsequent peace and reconciliation that comes with his presence on earth. The angelic host proclaims Christ's birth in Bethlehem, and all the nations rise to join in the "triumph of the skies." The hymn marvels at the divinity of Christ, who is "veiled in flesh" and hailed as the "incarnate Deity." The song concludes with a joyful exhortation for all to celebrate the birth of Christ and give "glory to the newborn King."

They have the voice of angels. A fitting song to sing. I was listening to this and then realised "Celtic Women... They're the ones who sing Tir na Nog, which I loved so much!" Simply wonderful!

Often people do not fully realize the depth of the theology of Christmas carols. This is one of those that is both thrilling to the heart and expresses the glory of the Incarnation.

After listening to what passes for Christmas music nowadays on the radio, I come to YouTube to hear the real thing! As a child, I memorized lyrics; as a 60-something, I'm enthralled with the sheer depth of meaning. Celtic Woman does exquisite justice to the beauty of the carol! 😺💕🐾
