cloud nine
Cero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And rainy girl says do do do ...

And rainy girl says do do do...

Overall Meaning

The song "Cloud Nine" by Cero is a poetic and dreamlike interpretation of a bizarre and somewhat eerie night before the changing of the seasons. The first verse sets a tone of unpredictability as the rain comes and goes in sporadic bursts, with some areas even facing thunderstorms. The imagery becomes more vivid in the second verse as the rain begins to pour down, darkening the sky above the transparent umbrellas. The thunder is compared to the sound of a Pharaoh Sanders sax solo, adding to the surreal atmosphere. The mention of the "wild side" being beyond the storm suggests that there is something dangerous or thrilling to be found there.

The chorus features a refrain by a "rainy girl" who simply says "do do do," as if enjoying the strange happenings of the night. The third verse takes a more existential turn, describing a camera obscura and the way that perspectives can be flipped around. The quote "the dead have no mouth, the living have no ears" leads into a strange nonsensical phrase that perhaps adds to the sense of disorientation. The final verse ties everything together by claiming that all of this strangeness is occurring during broad daylight, almost like a scene from a film. The trees continue to sway in the wind despite the darkness captured in the film.
