Born on the 27th August 1941 in the port town of Mindelo, Cape Verde, on the island of São Vicente. Long known as the queen of the morna, a soulful genre (related to the Portuguese fado) sung in Creole-Portuguese, she mixed her sentimental folk tunes filled with longing and sadness with the acoustic sounds of guitar, cavaquinho, violin, accordion, and clarinet. Évora's Cape Verdean blues often spoke of the country's history of isolation and slave trade, as well as emigration; almost two-thirds of the million Cape Verdeans alive live abroad.
Évora's voice, a finely-tuned, melancholy instrument with a touch of hoarseness, highlighted her emotional phrasing by accenting a word or phrase. Even audiences who do not understand her language could be held spell-bound by the emotions evident in her performances.
In 2004 she won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album.
A heavy smoker for decades, Évora was diagnosed with heart problems in 2005. She suffered strokes in 2008 and in September 2011, when she announced she was retiring. She died at the age of seventy in São Vicente, Cape Verde on the 17th December 2011 from respiratory failure and hypertension. A Spanish newspaper reported that forty-eight hours before her death she was still receiving people in her home in Mindelo, popular for always having its doors open.

The lyrics of Cesária Évora's song Tudo Dia E Dia are advising people to slow down and enjoy life. The singer emphasizes that there is no need to rush because the world is ours and we should savor it as part of our way of living. She acknowledges the fact that we are all different, and while some people are young and talented, they do not have the means to achieve everything they want. The repetition of the phrase "Vivê slowly, Tudo dia ê dia" reinforces the importance of taking our time and enjoying each day for what it is.
The song also highlights the irony of life. The world we live in is false, and people tend to live their lives on the edge, rushing and stressing about things that ultimately do not matter. The singer suggests that we embrace life with a sense of humor and enjoy it at a slower pace. She sings about the changes that come with time but reminds us that love and joy remain constant.
Overall, Tudo Dia E Dia is a reminder that life should be lived at our own pace, and we should take the time to appreciate and enjoy what we have without worrying too much about what we don't.

Day by day
LIve as slowly as possible
As allows
Our world.
It is an entertainment,
Which is part
Of our live.
You are a young man
Full of talent,
But I have a silk cloth,
Which you can hold.
So, directed this way
Live slowly
Day by day
This world is false,
If you live roughly;
Live calmly,
Full of irony.
I have never liked
Everything slow,
But everything is changing.
Live with taste,
Love and joy
