Born on the 27th August 1941 in the port town of Mindelo, Cape Verde, on the island of São Vicente. Long known as the queen of the morna, a soulful genre (related to the Portuguese fado) sung in Creole-Portuguese, she mixed her sentimental folk tunes filled with longing and sadness with the acoustic sounds of guitar, cavaquinho, violin, accordion, and clarinet. Évora's Cape Verdean blues often spoke of the country's history of isolation and slave trade, as well as emigration; almost two-thirds of the million Cape Verdeans alive live abroad.
Évora's voice, a finely-tuned, melancholy instrument with a touch of hoarseness, highlighted her emotional phrasing by accenting a word or phrase. Even audiences who do not understand her language could be held spell-bound by the emotions evident in her performances.
In 2004 she won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album.
A heavy smoker for decades, Évora was diagnosed with heart problems in 2005. She suffered strokes in 2008 and in September 2011, when she announced she was retiring. She died at the age of seventy in São Vicente, Cape Verde on the 17th December 2011 from respiratory failure and hypertension. A Spanish newspaper reported that forty-eight hours before her death she was still receiving people in her home in Mindelo, popular for always having its doors open.

The lyrics to Cesária Évora's song Yamore are in a mix of Portuguese and Bantu, which reflects the blend of African and European cultures in Cape Verde, where the artist is from. The song is a romantic ballad about loving someone, expressing deep feelings of love, but also acknowledging that love can be challenging at times. The words are poetic and evoke a nostalgic feeling.
The first verses talk about a passionate love, with the singer declaring "Je t'aime mi amoré menebêff fie" (I love you, my loved one, very much). However, there are also references to some cultural differences or misunderstandings, like "Ene le arabylyla to much" (It's too much, in Arab language). The following verses speak about the difficulties that love can bring, how it requires trust and resilience to survive the storms. The line "Nosso amor ta vins cansando de ser luta e resistência" (Our love is getting tired of being a fight and resistance) suggests that the couple may be longing for some peace and stability in their relationship.
Overall, Yamore is a touching love song that showcases Cesária Évora's melodic voice and the emotional depth of her lyrics. It's a song that resonates with many people who have experienced the highs and lows of romantic love.

I love you, my love
I am telling you,
I have fallen for you too much
I have something to tell you
If I don’t tell you… I won’t be able to move on with life, if I don’t tell you
I will be the one to tell
of my lovely feelings for you, I was up all-night singing melodies about you
Aahaha…
For you're my beautiful woman1
I am telling you about my sweethearted feelings for you
And that's not due to the sexual power women usually have over men
No no no
Even if I was starving, you are all I will need
I love you, my love
I am telling you,
I have fallen for you too much
(Don't go, my darling)
I love you, my love
I am telling you,
I have fallen for you too much
(My sweetheart, I love you)
Cesaria Evora
I have faith, yes I have faith
That one day we will live without fear and with confidence
We used to be a smiley people
The look of our children will shine of innocence again
And in the middle of their playing and shouting
Maybe the storm will calm down and turn into mildness and lull
Our love will finally take a break from its struggle and resistence
So it can survive the bad weather in mildness and lull
Our love will finally take a break from its struggle and resistence

You're my pure lamb2

Don't forget that those grammies stuffs are a western deal, they prioritize songs according to their culture. Africa should stop looking for recognition from other civilizations. Every African know this song is a master peace 👌😁
