El último de 8 hermanos (5 varones y 3 mujeres), introvertido y tímido, encontró a los 10 años, que el piano era algo más que un instrumento musical. Era su refugio, un amigo del cual no se separó jamás y en el cual pudo volcar todo su mundo interior. Con las primeras clases de piano ya tocaba sus primeras melodías.

A los 14 años junto a Daniel, su hermano, formaron diferentes grupos que desembocaron en el año 1969 en el legendario BANANA. César reconoce que esa época influyó en su música la primera corriente importante del rock argentino. Grupos como Los Gatos y Almendra entre otros, señalaban un camino por recorrer en el rock con letras en español. A los 17 años, cursando su último año de secundario, grabó su primer simple: "Facundo ha llegado al mundo". Con Jorge Scoufalos (el Griego) formaron un dúo autoral muy exitoso (hasta el día de hoy se juntan para escribir) del cual nacieron: "Negra no te vayas de mi lado" (1971), "Conociéndote", "Nadie podrá hacerme olvidar"(1973), entre otros títulos. Canciones frescas y espontáneas que reflejan ese mundo juvenil lleno de alegría, de romanticismo, de vida.

Paralelamente, César estudió piano y cursó la carrera de Composición en la Universidad Católica Argentina. Los discos de BANANA se editaron en muchos países de Latinoamérica, y el grupo hizo numerosas giras y presentaciones en Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Guatemala y Panamá.

En 1979 se publicó "Aún es tiempo de soñar", uno de los principales títulos de la última etapa de BANANA, con marcada influencia del rock sinfónico. El grupo se disolvió a mediados del '84, habiendo variado su formación muchas veces pero conservando su espíritu y la voz líder.

César se casó en noviembre del '79 con Cecilia García Laborde. Tienen dos hijos: Marcos (nacido el 9/5/85) y Juana (nacida el 26/01/87). A Marcos le dedicó la canción "Especial, tan especial" y a Juana "Canción para Juana". Compuso algunas otras inspiradas en frases dichas por ellos: "El cielo va a ganar" y "Por qué no hacemos una plaza", por ejemplo.
