Ceui (born January 31) is a female Japanese singer–songwriter originally from Chiba, Japan, though she grew up in Fukuoka. Ceui's name is derived from the Portuguese word for sky, céu. Due to the influence of her mother as a piano teacher, Ceui began learning classical piano from the age of six. As a young girl, she became interested in children's literature and poetry, and began writing verses herself.
As a student, she was a member of the wind instrument club and choir. She went to Shirayuri Women's University where she graduated with a degree in Japanese literature. In 2000, Ceui made a demo tape and was able to produce two six-track albums for the Japanese home furnishing store Francfranc entitled Spring Time and Autumn Mind; the albums were released via Filter Ink. Officially, these albums were released as "Francfranc's Bedside Music Selection featuring Ceui".
In 2002, Ceui worked on a project CD with the Japanese apparel company Sanei-International for their clothing brand LUVLISH 'cos brilliant. In 2003, Ceui went on an overseas live tour with other artists sponsored by Filter Ink. On October 21, 2004, Ceui released an independent album titled Ashimoto ni Furu Ame: Raindrops falling on My Feet, which was sold in HMV stores nationwide in Japan.
The same day, a project CD Ceui had worked on for the Japanese fortune teller Kaoruko Stella entitled Love Chance Music also went on sale. In 2006, Ceui provided a chorus to the blind Japanese pianist Kohshi Kishita. Ceui made her major debut on Lantis' MellowHead music label brand with the release of her first single "微睡みの楽園 (Madoromi no Rakuen)" in February 2007. Ceui released one more single in 2007, "Mellow Melody", followed by another in 2008, "神々の詩 (Kamigami no Uta)". Ceui released three more singles in 2009, and put out her seventh single "Sentiforia" in August 2009. Ceui had released her debut album Glassy Heaven in July 2009 and Rapsodia in 2012. In 2013, Ceui released album ガブリエル・コード ～エデンへ導く光の楽譜～ (Gabriel Code ~Eden e Michibuku Hikari no Gakufu~) which including many new songs and previous single of 奏愛カレンデュラ (Souai Calendula).
On February 1, 2014, the birthday event "Ceui, Birthday, Festival in Tokyo" was held at the same time as the additional performance of the "Gabriel Code" tour held at the B1 hall of the main building of the Tokyo ESP Musical Academy. In 2017, the 10th anniversary of her debut, she released two best albums "アカシックレコード 〜ルビー〜 (Akashic Record -Ruby-)", a collection of her song for anime theme songs and "アカシックレコード～サファイア～ (Akashic Record -Sapphire-)", a collection of her song for game theme songs. In 2022, the 15th anniversary of her debut, she released her best album "Endless Sky" in collaboration with solfa.

The lyrics to Ceui's song "Asphodelus" depict a person who is trapped in a state of despair, frozen in loneliness and seeking to be embraced by someone, anyone. This person is at the end of a crumbling paradise, where forgotten prayers echo in the darkness. Despite being in the grip of a dominating darkness, a love that can never run dry remains alive and they implore it to awaken forever. The person asks the darkness to color their infinite, descending loneliness with its fingers, so that they can learn to love their sadness even as they scream. As they seek the light they have yet to see, they ask those that stay behind to give them a gentle kiss deeper than the untamed blooming flowers.
The person seeks to light up their life, no matter how faltering their breath may be. They want the warm touch of the ringing bell of celebration, no matter how blurry their visions of this phantom world may be. In the midst of a storm, the love that never stops should awaken. The person asks to embrace the inescapable hope with their own eyes, feeling the joy of having met someone with their bare heart trembling. They seek the cruel beyond that which they desire.
Finally, the person asks those around them to allow their tears to glitter in the wind, to bless their bonds and their pains, so that they may never disappear. They want to be able to face their own infinite loneliness and let it take a hold of them, so that the locked doors might fly and allow them to spread their wings and approach the beginning of the sky. The lyrics symbolize the hope for eternal love and the desire to break free from the chains of despair and loneliness, seeking the light that will lead to an endless sky.
