Rasta
Chala Rasta Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

buscas a tu Dios, Rastafari Jah,

Rasta, rasta, rasta, rasta, rasta, no llores mas

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chala Rasta's song "Rasta" speak to the experiences of an orphan who was born at sea and arrived at a poor island with no bread. The song suggests that the person searches for God through Rastafari Jah in order to break free from the chains of their circumstances and reconnect with their truth. The chorus repeats the line "Rasta, rasta, rasta, no llores mas" which translates to "Rasta, rasta, rasta, don't cry anymore", indicating that the person has faced many challenges and setbacks in their life but is now hopeful that things will get better.

The second verse speaks to the experience of being whipped and how the pain it causes is only temporary, but it is also an eternal experience that stays with the person forever. The scars left behind will heal physically, but the wound on the soul continues to cry out for freedom. The third verse then references Africa and the influence that Nelson Mandela and Haile Selassie had on the person's life. The dreams and the smoke, possibly referencing marijuana use, never stop, and the person is always asked to sing again, indicating that they are a musician or an artist of some sort. Despite the pain and the hardships, the person's heart still sings and cannot be silenced.

Overall, "Rasta" is a song about resilience, hope, and the power of music to heal and transcend adversity. It speaks to the experiences of many people who face poverty, discrimination, and other challenges in their lives and how they seek solace and strength through religion, culture, and community.
