Paradise
Change Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now I regret a lot but I'll never regret that night
Or the days where you showed me planes fly so high
I'm led to you from all the steps that I've taken in my life
How lucky am I that I get to call you mine

They ask me where I've been I say I've been in paradise
Oh all the darkness I've lived in and all the nights I've laid and cried
Feels like the first thing that I've done that truly feels right

Thought there was no hope now I know that's not true
I brought you breakfast and now I feel brand new
It's not the gifts you gave me or the things that you do
The feelings overtook me cause you were just being you

They ask me where I've been I say I've been in paradise
Oh all the darkness I've lived in and all the nights I've laid and cried
Feels like the first thing that I've done that truly feels right

They ask me where I've been I say I've been in paradise

Oh all the darkness I've lived in and all the nights I've laid and cried
Feels like the first thing that I've done that truly feels right

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Paradise" by Change convey a message of romantic love and a willingness to go to great lengths for the sake of the object of one's affection. The song begins with the idea that the person's smile is enough to transport the singer to a paradisiacal state of ecstasy. This suggests that the smile is a symbol of the person's love - powerful enough to take the singer to a place of unbelievable bliss. The singer then paints a picture of a world filled with houses made of ecstasy, where romantic dreams can come true and happiness is boundless.

The chorus repeats the idea that the singer wants to take the person with them to paradise, where they can be safe and happy together. It reinforces the idea that the singer is committed to making the other person happy, expressing a strong desire for their love and affection. The bridge continues with the idea that the singer wants to share their space with the other person, and that "tender words alone" could make them feel complete. The song ends with another repetition of the chorus, driving the message home that the singer wants to take the person with them to paradise.

Change’s Paradise, is a masterpiece.

In pop music history, the opening of this song (featuring a brilliant slap bass guitar performance) is instantly recognizable . The lead vocalist, had the voice of an angel.

You’ll wanna hear it, over and over again.

One of the best songs of the 80’s. Unforgettable music. Awe inspiring, spiritual, magical, epic pop music history. Music to climb mountains to....

Is Change.

This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances of CHANGE et al in every section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our BLACK music culture.

Patrick, I generally tune out the vocals when I listen to music. A real nice piece is Chic's "I want your love." The bass carries the song throughout, but the horns are awesome as well as the guitar riffs. They don't make music like that anymore.

I love this song by Change. Real vocals, real instruments and, most of all, TALENT! Today's music can't beat the music from the eighties.
