Is that OK?
Lights make up, don't need my script
I know the lines
Smile, sing a love song
Act, like nothing's wrong
I know you're lost but alone
Action, go though the motion
Stop! Where's my understudy?
I can't go on, maybe she can take my place
You don't know me
No you don't
You don't dare
You don't even bother
I'm so lonely
I'm fading fast
When you see me, I feel invisible
When you hold me I feel nothing at all
And in this masquerade, I know the part I played
Put on a happy face pretend that it's not that way
And all I have to say is
Don't make me laugh
Ha hi ha ha ha h hi
It's not funny anymore
Hey chin up!
What's wrong with you?
I'm giving it all I got
Hmmm, it's not enough
This hurts too much
You don't even call it love
You don't know me
No you don't
You don't dare
You don't even bother
I'm so lonely
I'm fading fast
When you see me, I feel invisible
When you hold me I feel nothing at all
I'm in this masquerade, I know the part I play
But all that happy face pretend that it's not that way
And all I have to say is
Don't make me laugh
Ha hi ha ha ha h hi
It's not funny anymore
Wave goodbye, curtain's coming down
This is our final act
It's over, it's over now
And when you see me, I feel invisible
When you hold me I feel nothing at all
I'm in this masquerade, I know the part I play
But all that happy face pretend that it's not that way
And all I have to say is
This girl is gone
Don't make me laugh
Ha hi ha ha ha h hi
It's not funny anymore
And when you see me, I feel invisible
When you hold me I feel nothing at all
It's not funny anymore
It's not funny anymore
And all I have to say is
Don't make me laugh
Don't make me, don't make me
Don't make me laugh
The lyrics of Chante Moore's song "Don" tell the story of a woman who's in a relationship where she's not being seen, heard, or loved the way she deserves. She's playing a role, performing as if everything is okay, but in reality, she's struggling with loneliness and feeling invisible. The song starts with her preparing to go on stage, getting dressed, putting on makeup, and rehearsing her lines. She's playing a part, singing a love song, but she knows deep down that something's off. She asks herself if she looks okay, but she's really asking if she's enough.
As the song progresses, Moore sings about how her partner doesn't know her or care about her. They don't see her struggles or try to connect with her. She's fading fast, feeling invisible when they see her and feeling nothing at all when they hold her. She's tired of putting on a happy face and pretending that everything is okay. She asks them not to make her laugh because it's not funny anymore.
