My magic potion for love
Telling him, I'm sicere
And that there's nothing too good for us
And I've just got to be me, me, me
Whispering in his ear, my magic potion for love
But I want to be free, free, free
And I've just got to be me, me, me
Teasing hands on his mind, give our nights such mystery
Happiness all the time, oh and how that man pleases me
But I want to be free, free, free
And I've just got to be me, me, me
And I've just got to be me
Feeling you close to me, makes all my senses smile (smile)
Let's not waste ecstasy, 'cause I'll be only here for a while.
I've gotta be free, free, free, ooh
And I've just got to be me, me, me
Free, free, free to be me
(And I've just gotta be me) and I just want to, I just want to be me
I've just got to sail on (free), honey
Good times never felt so good
I've just got to sail on (free), sugar
Good times never felt so good
I've just got to sail on (sail on), baby (sail on baby)
Freedom never felt so good, no it never felt so good
I've just got to sail on, honey
(Being free) being free never felt so good
I've just got to sail on (sail on), honey (sail on honey)
Good times (good times), never felt so good (no they never felt so good)
I've just got to sail on (sail on), sugar (sail on sugar)
Good times never felt so good (never felt so good)
I've just got to sail on (never felt so good), baby (never felt so good)
Freedom never felt so good
The lyrics to Chanté Moore's "Free-Sail On" describe the conflicting desires within a relationship. The singer is whispering to her partner, promising him her "magic potion for love" and expressing her sincere affection. She revels in the pleasure and happiness he brings her, but at the same time, she desires freedom. The repeated refrain of "I've just got to be me" emphasizes this desire, as she wants to be able to fulfill her own individual needs and desires.
The teasing hands on his mind and the mystery they create add to the intoxicating nature of their relationship, but the singer knows that these feelings won't last forever. She urges her partner to enjoy their time together and not waste the ecstasy they can share. Ultimately, though, she cannot ignore her need for freedom and wants to sail on towards fulfilling her own desires.
The song captures the tension between love and personal freedom, and the difficulty of balancing those desires in a relationship. It encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and not compromise their own needs for the sake of their partner.

Just saw Chanté last week at City Winery in NYC which brought me here. I bought tix because I've always been an admirer but now I'm an official FAN...a truly underrated singer/performer and she has lost none of her range from the year this album (or her first) dropped. If Chanté happens to be coming to your town do yourself a favor & come through. (I do not know or am affiliated with Chanté Moore at all lol...she's just a dope ass sanga. Don't believe me ask Patti LaBelle)
