If I Gave Love

I'ma make you dance a little
Darkchild gon' make you dance a little
Chante make you dance a little
We gon' make you dance a little
C'mon
If I gave you love
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
If I gave love
If I could look into your eyes and see the truth
Then I would know if I should try to put all of my trust in you
Not having to worry about if things would change
Once I gave myself to you
I hope that you would stay the same
Cuz I put all my trust in the wrong hands
And I don't ever want to feel pain again
So how do I know that you're the right man?
But I pray that you are so our love could begin
If I gave you love
Then where would that leave me?
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
If I gave love
I'm takin' a chance on you and me boy
You've given me a reason to let you inside my life
I've been in love before, I know this feeling
I gotta know this time this love is right
I gotta know that love is right
Not enough just to say the words "I love you"
(Can't say it baby, baby)
Gotta make sure that you're doin' everything you say
I'm not impressed by lines I've heard before
When it's said and done, those lines will fade away
(If I gave love)
If I gave you love
Then where would that leave me?
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
If I gave love
If I gave you love
Then where would that leave me?
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
Not much to ask of you
I ask that you be true
Don't take my love for granted
See I wont be played so easily
Been there, done that before
I can't go there no more
Please oh please don't get me wrong
I just want a love I can count on
If I gave you love
Then where would that leave me?
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
If I gave love
If I gave you love
Then where would that leave me?
If I gave my trust
Would you use it against me?
And if love starts again
Would the ending be the same?
Or would you prove to be the only one for me?
If I gave love
Chanté Moore's "If I Gave Love" explores the struggle of trusting after experiencing betrayal in love. The lyrics express a fear of giving love and trust, and the doubt of whether the person receiving it will reciprocate those feelings back. The chorus repeatedly poses the question, "If I gave you love, then where would that leave me?" as a way of questioning whether the person receiving the love will also be trustworthy and loyal.
The verse talks about the fear of being hurt once again and the desire to know if the person is the right one for her. The lyrics read, "If I could look into your eyes and see the truth, then I would know if I should try to put all of my trust in you. Not having to worry about if things would change, once I gave myself to you, I hope that you would stay the same." The lyrics convey a deep need to know if the love is right, and if the person will continue to reciprocate those feelings.
The bridge emphasizes the importance of actions over words, stating, "Not enough just to say the words 'I love you,' gotta make sure that you're doing everything you say. I'm not impressed by lines I've heard before. When it's said and done, those lines will fade away." The lyrics express a desire for real action and loyalty rather than just empty promises.
Overall, "If I Gave Love" is a vulnerable expression of fear and the desire for trust and loyalty in a relationship.
