It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way

The last time we shared a laugh
It seems like forever
'Cause now I hardly ever see you smile
I never been the fool to think
That love don't cost a little pain
[Chorus:]
To get along
Neither one of us wants to say we're wrong
So it goes on and on
Everyday I pray for change
But morning, noon and night
All we do is fight
Baby, it ain't supposed to be this way
When was the last time we made love
Not just to make up
It seems like forever
'Cause now I hardly ever feel your touch
I never been a fool to think
That love don't cost a little pain
[Chorus:]
I'm struggling to find a reason
Good enough to make it thorough
There's got to be something
To keep me loving you
For a long time something's missing
And it's gone on without fixin'
And baby we've got to figure out
What we're gonna do, yeah
[Chorus: Repeat 2X]
I just don't think
We should be kissing and hugging
I don't think it's supposed to be
The night away...
In "It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way", Chanté Moore reflects on the struggles that exist in a romantic relationship that was once filled with love and laughter. She notes how time has gone so quickly and that things have changed. The relationship has become cold and distant, with the smiles and laughs they once shared disappearing. While she acknowledges that love can sometimes be painful, she also recognizes that it shouldn't be so hard to get along. The couple seems to struggle to communicate and accept their mistakes, which only leads to more fighting.
The chorus reveals her doubt that their relationship should be this difficult, as neither of them wants to admit they are wrong, and it seems like the fighting will never end. She prays for change but the arguing continues, and deep down she knows it’s not supposed to be this way. The second verse goes deeper, as she remembers the intimacy they once shared and laments that it has also become just a memory. She wonders if there is still a reason to keep loving when something is missing and they are struggling to find a way to fix it.
Overall, "It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way" is a song that poignantly captures the struggles that exist in many relationships, as well as the desire to hold on and make things better. It's an emotional ballad that showcases Chanté Moore’s vocal prowess and her ability to convey a message that resonates with listeners.
