Bio: Chant is a trio born in 1999 from an idea of drummer Cristiano Calcanile.
Until 2007, Chant performed as an acoustic trio, releasing an album in 2003 for the Italian label "Caligola" that was enthusiastically received by critics for the strong interplay of the players and the original blend of compositional elements and free improvisation.
In 2007, during the recording of their second album, the trio felt a strong need to rethink their musical working method, and thus the decision of enrich their instrumental and compositional palette. That necessity brought the inclusion of electric and electronic (electric bass and synthesizers) and acoustic instruments (harpsichord, pipe organ, clavichord and harmonium) as well as the use of the recording studio "as an instrument" (a feature that is usually atypical in the improvised music field). This process consisted in one year dedicated to the pre-production of the new material, and a new, longer recording session during Summer 2008 in Finland.
This music is the result of our personal research between composition and improvisation, but with a strong intention of leaving the interplay and the simple joy of playing together intact.

Flows through me
From the lands
To the seas
If I cut you
You cut me
And together
It only goes to show you
We're all the same
All the same
We're all insane
Into our ears
From on the breeze
Whispers how
We were all born free
From me to you
From him to her
Brought together
By these mere words
The lyrics to Chant's song All the Same speaks to the interconnectedness that exists between all people. The lines, "What flows through you, flows through me/ From the lands to the seas/ If I cut you, you cut me/ And together we will bleed" highlights the fact that the human experience is a shared one. We all have the same basic needs, wants, and desires. We are all vulnerable to the same pain and suffering. The lyrics suggest that it is this shared experience that unites us rather than the things that separate us.
The last verse of the song further reinforces this idea of interconnectivity. The lines "From me to you/From him to her/ Brought together by these mere words" implies that we are connected not just by our physical bodies but also by our common language. It is through communication that we are able to share our experiences and connect with each other. The song ultimately suggests that the things that make us unique are important, but they are not what define us as human beings. At our core, we are all the same.

What flows through you
The same forces that affect you also affect me
Flows through me
As such, we share a commonality
From the lands
This connection isn't limited to geography
To the seas
But is as expansive as the oceans
If I cut you
Although we may appear different, we share a deeper bond
You cut me
One that transcends physicality or distinctions between us
And together
Rather, we are connected in a fundamental way
We will bleed
And our shared pain reminds us that we are all human
It only goes to show you
This understanding is universal, and applies to every person in every situation
We're all the same
Thus, the arbitrary differences we place between ourselves are just that- insignificant and meaningless
All the same
And ultimately, we are united by our shared humanity
We're all insane
Despite this, strife and conflict continue, in a testament to our collective irrationality
Into our ears
Amidst the chaos, however, comes whispers of hope
From on the breeze
Carried by the winds of change
Whispers how
These whispers serve as a reminder
We were all born free
That despite the hardships, our shared humanity grants us an inherent strength
From me to you
This strength doesn't distinguish between individuals
From him to her
Rather, it is present within each of us
Brought together
And so, even as we face our struggles, we find solace in one another
By these mere words
For the forces that connect us are potent, and can be summoned by something as simple as language
