Bio: Chant is a trio born in 1999 from an idea of drummer Cristiano Calcanile.
Until 2007, Chant performed as an acoustic trio, releasing an album in 2003 for the Italian label "Caligola" that was enthusiastically received by critics for the strong interplay of the players and the original blend of compositional elements and free improvisation.
In 2007, during the recording of their second album, the trio felt a strong need to rethink their musical working method, and thus the decision of enrich their instrumental and compositional palette. That necessity brought the inclusion of electric and electronic (electric bass and synthesizers) and acoustic instruments (harpsichord, pipe organ, clavichord and harmonium) as well as the use of the recording studio "as an instrument" (a feature that is usually atypical in the improvised music field). This process consisted in one year dedicated to the pre-production of the new material, and a new, longer recording session during Summer 2008 in Finland.
This music is the result of our personal research between composition and improvisation, but with a strong intention of leaving the interplay and the simple joy of playing together intact.

Ginseng Breeze
Chant Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The moments of our need
We will breath our last breath
In a ginseng breeze
Ginseng breeze
Killing curses love
With no bye or leave
In a ginseng breeze
Ginseng breeze
When this house of cards comes down
Standing here at the signpost
Of our lives
No more words please
No more sound
Standing here on life's playground
From the killer, old man, to the clown
Good times will come
Good times will go
Lozenge your mind
To the pain you know
Good time to c**
Good time to go
Lozenge your mind
From the pain you know
The lyrics of Chant's song Ginseng Breeze paint a picture of the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death. The opening lines suggest that life is made up of small, insignificant moments, but these moments become significant when we are faced with our ultimate demise. The line "We will breath our last breath in a ginseng breeze" could be interpreted as a metaphor for the peaceful passing of life, with ginseng representing calmness and serenity.
The second verse speaks to the power of love and the finality of death, reminding the listener that when it is time to go, it is time to go. The use of the word "curse" implies that love can be destructive, and the line "Why breath your last breath in a ginseng breeze" is a variation on the earlier line, suggesting that death is inevitable and cannot be avoided.
The third verse brings us back to the idea that life is short and that we should make the most of it. The reference to a "house of cards" suggests that life is fragile and can collapse at any moment. The signpost of our lives suggests that we have choices to make, and that we should make them wisely. The line "No more words please, no more sound" suggests a quiet acceptance of what is to come, and the final line of the verse speaks to the diversity of human experience, from the "killer, old man" to the "clown."
Overall, Ginseng Breeze is a contemplative reflection on the human condition and the inevitability of death. It encourages us to make the most of our brief time on this earth and to embrace life for all its ups and downs.
